13th ranked LSU is just four days away from the season opener against number 14 Wisconsin and it remains a mystery to the public who will be the starting quarterback for the Tigers. Coach Les Miles is staying tight lipped, but he says Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will get a chance to play against the Badgers…:

The game in Houston kicks off at 8pm on Saturday night.

Louisiana Tech Head Coach Skip Coach has named a starting quarterback. He announced Monday it would be Cody Sokol who won the job over the incumbent Ryan Higgens after a vigourous battle throughout fall camp. The Bulldogs play at Oklahoma in a 6pm game on Saturday.

New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is expecting baby number 4 any day now. The QB wasn’t at practice on Monday. Brees already has three children…Baylen who is 5, Bowen who is 3 and 2-year-old Callen. He and his wife Brittany are expecting their first girl. The Saints play the Ravens on Thursday in the Mercedes Benz Superdome — it’s not clear if Brees will practice this week or play in the next game.

Former LSU safety Craig Steltz has been released from The Chicago Bears. The veteran can now sign with any team he chooses.

On Monday two LSU basketball players were named to the natioanl All-Sophomore team for the upcoming season by Athlon Sports. They are Jordan Mickey and Jarrell Martin. Mikey averaged nearly 13 points and 8 rebounds a game last season, while Martin averaged 10 points and four and a half rebounds, after a slow start to the season.

That’s Coach Les Miles giving a scouting report on the Badgers. Miles once again made the statement that his two quarterbacks, Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will play, but would not say who would start.

Louisiana Tech’s starting quarterback for the season opener against Oklahoma is still a mystery. The Bulldogs released a depth chart today that has Cody Sokul or Ryan Higgins as the starter against the Sooners.

Grambling State head Coach Broderick Fobbs is also staying mum on who his starting QB will be week one. The Tigers are at Lamar this Saturday.

The Saints returned to practice field this afternoon for the first time since beating the Colts on Saturday night. Quarterback Drew Brees performed well in that game, but he was not at practice today. Still waiting to hear something official from the Saints, but it could be that Brees is with his wife Brittany, who is expecting to give birth to their fourth child this week.

Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz has yet to say who will start at quarterback for the Bulldogs this Saturday as Tech opens the season at Oklahoma. Cody Sokol and Ryan Higgins have been battling since the start of fall camp.

Northwestern State opens the season Thursday against Missouri State. Zach Adkins is the starting QB and Daniel “Bear” Hazlewood is the back-up.

The Saints are back on the practice field this afternoon as training camp winds down. New Orleans looked sharp on Saturday in a 23-to-17 win over the Colts. Tight end Jimmy Graham says the offense is already in a rhythem, even though quarterback Drew brees didn’t play in the first two preseason games because of an oblique injury….

Reducing the number of penalties is still a priority, as the Black and Gold were flagged ten times on Saturday night. And it’s still unclear, who will be Brees back-up. Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin each struggled at times against the Colts.

In other NFL news…former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is listed as the number three quarterback on the Titans depth chart.

In some other NFL news, Slap Your Mama Spice company has been told they can’t have their virtual on-field ads on during telecasts anymore. The NFL sent a letter to the company’s owners indicating they are facing domestic violence issues and that Slap Ya Mama is a message that isn’t consistent with league standards.

Game week has arrived for the 13th ranked Tigers as they’ll leave later this week for Houston to take on 14th ranked Wisconsin Saturday night. Senior linebacker DJ Welter says the intensity at practice has been picking up as they get closer to gameday…:

The NFL has fined Saints Tight End Jimmy Graham $30,000 for his two celebratory goalpost dunks in last Friday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Graham was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct after each of his two touchdown receptions. The NFL put the rule in place during the offseason citing the possibility of game delays. Graham knocked the goalposts and crossbar out of alignment after one of his dunks last season and it took almost 30 minutes to correct. The Tight end said after the Titans game that he wasn’t going to dunk the goalpost anymore.

We should see Saints Quarterback Dree Brews back tonight as the Black and Gold take on the Indiaiapolisy Colts. The QB was injured from a strainged left oblique but he’s recovered in time to play in one of their most anticipated games of the preseason. He hasn’t been practicing much with the team. Kickoff tonight is at 7 on CBS.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe kicks off against Wake Forest at home on Thursday and prior to that game the school says Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson will serve as the ceremonial guest for the coin toss. In addition to Robertson’s appearance, a Duck Dynasty episode will be filmed and fans at the game will likely en up making an appearance in that show.

The state trooper in South Carolina who arrested former LSU standout and current Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman Sam Montgomery at a traffic sopt last June has been fired. Montgomery was pulled over for speeding and the cop’s dashboard camera caught him threatening to taze the football player. Highway officials say the trooper’s comments to Montgomery during the arrest were inappropriate according to a release.

McNeese State completes preseason camp with a scrimmage this morning in Cowboy Stadium. It’s open to the public and free of charge. The Pokes first game is September sixth at 22nd ranked Nebraska.

The Saints left for Indianapolis today, where they’ll play the Colts tomorrow night in preseason action. Quarterback Drew Brees will see his first game action of the preseason as he’s finally recovered from an oblique injury. Brees says it’s important for him to play well as he might not play again until the regular season opener….

Defensive backs Champ Bailey and Jairus Byrd are also expected to play tomorrow night. Both veterans watched the first two preseason games from the sidelines. Byrd has shown in practice that he’s recovered from offseason back surgery, while Bailey has to prove to the coaches that he has another good season in him at the age of 36. Kick-off tomorrow night is at seven o’ clock.

Wisconsin Coach Gary Anderson had said that a decision on who will start at quarterback against LSU would not be announced until game day. But reports out of Wisconsin today say that redshirt junior Tanner McEvoy will get the start over the incumbent Joel Stave. McEvoy is six-foot-six and he’s transfer from Arizona Western College, where he threw for 19-hundred yards and 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 414 yards and six TDS in 2013.

We’re waiting on a decision from Louisiana Tech head Coach Skip Holtz on who will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. Cody Sokol and Ryan Higgins have been competing for that spot since the start of preseason camp. Holtz could make an announcement at seven o’ clock tonight.

A week from today, many LSU fans will make their way to Houston for the season opener against the University of Wisconsin. The Tigers and Badgers will face off in a Top 25 matchup next Saturday at NRG Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8PM. David Fletcher, executive director of the Advocare Texas Kickoff, says even though the game is a thousand miles away from Wisconsin, they expect a large contingent of Badger faithful to make the trip…

You can expect to see few big-name Saints make their preseason debut in Saturday’s preseason game in Indianapolis. Not only will quarterback Drew Brees see action after recovering from an oblique injury, but Cornerbacks Champ Bailey and Patrick Robinson are expected to play as well. Rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks is questionable for tomorrow’s game due to a stomach virus and fever he’s been battling this week.

McNeese State and UL-Lafayette announced yesterday that they will resume their long-standing football rivalry in 2016. The two teams will play September 10 in two years and the contest will be held at Cajun Field. Leaders from both schools say these games will create outstanding atmospheres.

The Alabama and LSU football teams each had 11 players on the Preseason Coaches All-Conference team to lead the way among all 14 Southeastern Conference squads. The SEC teams released Thursday had representatives from all 14 teams and half of them had 7 or more selections. The SEC begins the season on August 28th.

In the NBA, The Pelecans released their preseason schedule Thursday. New Orleans will play two games at the Smoothie King Center. The first October 14th against the Rockets and then October 16th versus the Thunder. The Pels will also play the Dallas Mavericks on October 23rd at the Century Link Center in Bossier City. The Pelican’s preseason schedule begins October 4th against the Miami Heat in Louisville, Kentucky.

Quarterback Drew Brees headlines that list, but we’ll also get a chance to see Jairus Byrd and cornerbacks Champ Bailey and Patrick Robinson. Byrd and Robinson are battling for the starting cornerback position opposite of Keenan Lewis.

Sophomore Ethan Pocic could be LSU’s starting center in the season opener against Wisconsin. Coach Les Miles said on his radio show last night that Pocic will play in the game, if not start. Elliot Porter was LSU’s starting center last season.

The Pelicans released their preseason schedule today. New Orleans will play two games at the Smoothie King Center, October 14th against the Rockets and October 16th versus the Thunder. They will also play the Dallas Mavericks on October 23rd at the Century Link Center in Bossier City. The Pels preseason schedule begins October fourth against the Miami Heat in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Ragin Cajuns and McNeese State will play each other in football in 2016. The game will be held at Cajun Field. These two teams played each other in 2007 and the Cowboys won 38-17.

UL Lafayette also announced that individual game tickets for this year’s season opener against Southern will go on sale Monday. You can purchase tickets at the Cajundeom Box Office or through Ticketmaster.

The Saints are back at their facility today, praciting indoors and getting ready for Saturday’s preseason game against the Colts.

According to ranking by Forbes Magazine, the Green Bay Packers have the best fans in the NFL. Bronco fans came in second place and the Who Dat Nation finished third in that ranking.

And Forbes has also come out with its ranking over how much franchises are worth. Dallas tops the list at three-point-two billion dollars, the Saints are worth one-point-one billion.

During Les Miles’ call-in talk show, the LSU head coach reitereated that quarterbacks Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will play in the season opener. He also said that sophomore offensive lineman Ethan Pocic could be in the starting line-up, which means Elliot Porter could be a back-up. Miles also said that freshman Jamal Adams and sophomore Rickey Jefferson are playing safety. There was no mention of senior Ronald Martin.

Grambling State interim President Cynthia Warrick says she would like to make renovations to Eddie Robinson Stadium. Warrick told the Monroe News-Star Editorial Board that she would like to a see a new jumbotron at the stadium, along with new turf and an improved drainage system.
