How about Southeastern Louisiana this past weekend. The Lions forced nine turnovers in their 28-17 win over Florida Tech. Linebacker Demareyeh Lane had two interceptions and returned one 58 yards for a touchdown. He was named today as the Southland Defensive Player of the Week.

More bad injury news for the Saints. The NFL Network reports safety Rafael Bush tore his pectoral muscle in yesterday’s loss to the Cardinals. If that’s the case, Bush will likely miss the rest of the season. New Orleans has reportedly signed veteran free agent safety Kenny Phillips. The former first round draft pick has eight career interceptions, but hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012. He was with the Saints during training camp, but was part of the final cuts made by the team.

Cowboy fans are happy about last night’s come from behind win to beat the Giants. But wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered a broken bone in his foot and could miss the next four to six weeks. The Saints are set to host Dallas on October fourth.

LSU has announced they arrested a 21-year-old man from Cut Off for allegedly climbing a security fence and entering a secure area behind Mike the Sixth’s habitat on the LSU campus. It happened around the start of the McNeese State game, but Mike was in Tiger Stadium. Trent Paul Boudreaux was cited, but not booked in jail.

It looked like the Saints were on the verge of pulling off a come from behind win on the road, but a couple of fourth quarter touchdowns by the Cardinals resulted in a 31-19 loss for New Orleans. The Saints played several rookies and first-time starters. Rookie linebacker Hau-oli Kikaha forced a fumble and receiver Willie Snead made his NFL debut by reeling in a 63-yard pass from quarterback Drew Brees that led to one of four field goals by new kicker Dustin Hocker. But 1st-year cornerback Delvin Breaux was penalized four times. Coach Sean Payton says the Saints inexperience showed at times…

That second game is this Sunday against Tampa Bay. The Bucs had a brutal opening to the season as they were blasted by Tennessee 42-14.

On September 26th, get ready to wake up early to watch the Tigers. LSU’s road game against Syracuse in the Carrier Dome will kick-off at 11 AM and it will be televised by ESPN or ABC. LSU’s home opener is this Saturday against Auburn. Kick-off for that one is at 2:30.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette is must-see television. The Heisman Trophy candidate rushed for 159 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers two-point win over Mississippi State on Saturday. Fournette had 28 carries, and Coach Les Miles says he has no problem giving him the rock…

UL Lafayette running back Elijah McGuire had a big game Saturday as he tied the school record with five touchdowns in a victory over Northwestern State. Four of the TDs came in the first-half.

The 14th ranked Bayou Bengals face number 18 Auburn Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.

Also on the college gridiron: number 15 Georgia Tech blasted Tulane 65-10, UL-Lafayette crushed Northwestern State 43-17, ULM shut out Nicholls State 47-0, McNeese State rolled past Incarnate Word 43-6, and it was Southeastern Louisiana over Florida Tech 28-17.

A slow start and a poor finish resulted in a 31-19 loss for the Saints in the season opener against Arizona. New Orleans fell behind 14-3 in the first half, but rallied to get within one point in the third quarter. However, the defense allowed two touchdowns in the fourth quarter , which sent the Saints back to the Big Easy with a loss. Speaking of the Bucs, they were crushed in their season opener against Tennessee 42-14.

The Carolina Panthers opened their season with a 20-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Atlanta’s season gets underway tonight. The Falcons host the Philidelphia Eagles with kickoff slated for 6:10PM. That game can be watched on ESPN.

It’s gameday and Louisiana is in for some great action on this Saturday. LSU and Mississippi State face off and one of the big things to watch is how the Tigers’ defense will fair against the Bulldogs QB and former Haughton High School star Dak Prescott. Prescott threw LSU around last year but Bayou Bengal defensive tackle Christian Lacourture says getting a lot of players around State’s QB will be key:

In high school football scores…Ponchatoula took control last night and rode four first-half touchdowns to get the 26-0 win over defending back-to-back 5A champion Acadiana last night. Franklinton downed Amite 40-12. University High beat the top ranked team in One-A, Southern Lab, 35-16. The game of the night was between Haynesville and Union Parish and it was Union Parish winning 27-26. North Desoto beat Mansfield 19-14 in a rivalry game. Haugton knocked off Minden 17-10. Delhi defeated Vidalia 32-31. And Carroll beat Rayville 21-20.

LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri is set to receive a two-year contract extension at his base salary of $750,000. Softball coach Beth Torina is set to get a 25 percent raise and a one-year extension. The proposed contract changes are expected to be approved by the board at its meeting next Friday.

In a wild game last night, Western Kentucky outlasted Louisiana Tech 41-38. The Bulldogs kicked a field goal with less than a minute to go to cut the lead to three, but the ensuing onside kick went out of bounds. Tech quarterback Jeff Driskel was impressive throwing for 357 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

A lot of state colleges will hit the gridiron Saturday: Tulane faces number 15 Georgia Tech, UL-Lafayette hosts Northwestern State, Nicholls State travels to ULM, McNeese State hosts Incarnate Word, and Southeastern Louisiana takes on Florida Tech.

The Saints kick off the 2015 regular season Sunday at Arizona. Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty threw for 441 yards and a touchdown as the Hilltoppers outscored Louisiana Tech last night 41-28. Bulldog quarterback Jeff Driskel threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. This was the Conference USA opener for both teams. Tech will travel to Manhattan, Kansas to face Kansas State on September 19.

Southern scored 20 points in the first quarter and never looked back as the Jaguars routed Mississippi Valley State 50-13.

The NFL season got underway last night as the New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns, three of those to tight end Rob Gronkowski.

It will be an emotional night in Wossman, where the Franklin Parish football team will play its first game since the death of Tyrell Cameron. Tyrell died last Friday after colliding with another player during a punt return. The game between Wossman and Franklin Parish was moved up to tonight, because visitiation for Tyrell is tomorrow night.

LSU and Mississippi State will have to wait until 8:15 on Saturday night to kick-it off. After waiting for last Saturday’s game to be cancelled, the Tigers know what it’s like to wait around. LSU defensive tackle Christian Lacouture says they’ll be ready to go…

Louisiana Tech will play its second game of the season tonight when they face Western Kentucky in a battle featuring the two best teams in Conference USA. The Hilltoppers held on to beat Vanderbilt last week, while the Bulldogs easily defeated Southern.

The Jaguars are also in action tonight as they take on Mississippi Valley State in a game that will be on ESPN-U at 6:30.

And on Fox Sports New Orleans, it’s the top ranked team in Class 3-A, Parkview Baptist, facing Riverside Academy in the LHSAA Game of the Week.

Louisiana Tech will face Western Kentucky tonight in the Conference USA opener for both teams. It’s a match-up of two teams that are expected to win their respective divisions in Conference USA. Bulldogs Head Coach Skip Holtz says there’s also two good quarterbacks in this game, Jeff Driskel for Louisiana Tech and the Hilltoppers Brandon Doughty, who was the nation’s passing leader last season…

Also tonight…Southern is at Mississippi Valley State. The Jaguars won this contest last season, 44-13. Kick-off for this one is at 6:30 and it can be seen on ESPN U.

The Saints continue to get ready for their regular season opener against Arizona on Sunday. It doesn’t look like, safety Jairus Byrd and running back CJ Spiller will play. Both did not practice yesterday. But cornerback Brandon Browner did practice, which is a good sign, especially with Kennan Lewis out for the first couple of games.

In other NFL news…the Panthers have reportedly signed linebacker Luke Kuechly to a five-year, 62-million dollar contract extension. The deal makes Kueckly the highest paid inside linebacker in NFL history.

LSU sophomore wide receiver Trey Quinn says he’s fully healthy for Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. Quinn was sidelined for a couple of weeks during fall camp because of a neck injury.

It will be an emotional night in Wossman tonight, where the Franklin Parish Patriots will take the field for the first time since Tyrell Cameron passed away. Cameron was playing on the punt team for the Patriots last week, when he suffered a broken neck after colliding with an opposing player. He died a short time later. Tonight’s Franklin Parish-Wossman game was moved up to Thursday, because the wake for Tyrell is tomorrow night.

Saints Coach Sean Payton expressed his dissatisfaction with quarterback Drew Brees jumping on a crocodile as he did in the NBC television show with Bear Grylls. Brees says he knew he would be out of his comfort zone by being out in the wild with snakes, but also didn’t feel he was going to seriously hurt himself

Payton does have a good sense of humor about the whole thing. Before Brees’ weekly press conference Payton put an alligator head on a chair next to where his star quarterback was speaking.

The Saints are getting ready for Sunday’s season opener against the Arizona Cardinals. Cornerback Brandon Browner and running Khiry Robinson both practiced yesterday according to the team’s injury report.

The Louisiana Tech football team faces a tough challenge on the road tonight as they battle Western Kentucky. Tech beat the Hilltoppers 59 to 10 last season in Ruston, but Western Kentucky has won six straight since then and Coach Skip Holtz believes his team is the underdog going into tonight’s match-up…
