The shooting occurred last night as the officer was searching an apartment looking for a person who was involved in a shooting the night before. The police officer is in stable condition, the suspect was taken into custody in Acadia Parish and then transported to a hospital.

Detective John Cole, the Slidell officer who was involved in a suspected drunk driving fatal accident Sunday, died from his injuries Wednesday afternoon. Trooper Greg Marchand says Cole flipped his Jeep in the crash and his passenger, Daniel Hanlon, died on the scene. Marchand says impairment on the part of Cole is suspected. They are still awaiting the toxicology report.
