Detective John Cole, the Slidell officer who was involved in a suspected drunk driving fatal accident Sunday, died from his injuries Wednesday afternoon. Trooper Greg Marchand says Cole flipped his Jeep in the crash and his passenger, Daniel Hanlon, died on the scene. Marchand says impairment on the part of Cole is suspected. They are still awaiting the toxicology report.

Republican US Senate candidate Bill Cassidy says he will now debate at least two times against Democratic incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu. The Cassidy campaign says Landrieu is pushing three other debates, which Cassidy has declined to participate, because they are highly scripted and don’t require voter interaction.
