Congressman Steve Scalise’s guest tonight will be Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich, who’s well aware of the state’s fentanyl overdose crisis. Scalise says the majority of the deadly drug enters the U.S. via the southern border, which President Biden refuses to control.

 

Attorney General Jeff Landry released the Protecting Innocence Report today. Landry says it’s an examination of sexually explicit material at public libraries that may not be age appropriate for children. Landry urges parents to read the report at his website, “AGJeffLandry.com”…:

Turkey Creek Senator Heather Cloud has filed legislation calling on public libraries to implement policy to limit minors’ access to sexually explicit material…or lose public funding.

A Leesville man is in jail, after a local mom caught him sexually molesting her 7-year-old daughter. 35-year-old Thomas McCartney was arrested in Harris Country, Texas and will be brought back to Vernon parish to face justice. McCartney is also a convicted sex offender, with arrests from 2006 and 2010.

Police in Monroe offer a reward for information that leads to the arrest of 18-year-old Isszvian (ih-SAHV-ian) Webb. Webb is accused of opening fire at law enforcement officers with a semi-automatic rifle on February 5th. When caught, he’ll face three counts of attempted murder. Folks with tips are asked to call Monroe Police at (318) 329-2600.

A Florida woman, armed with a blowtorch and a repurposed graffiti’ed school bus, led authorities in St. Tammany Parish on a chase during rush hour that ended in downtown Covington when she crashed on a school campus. St. Tammany Sheriff’s Sgt. Suzanna Carboni says 37-year-old Natalie Jarvis was involved in a domestic dispute a month ago, in which her boyfriend was taken into custody and a child removed from the bus, where the three were living as campers…:

No one was seriously hurt. Carboni now faces a long list of charges.

Her bill proposes that libraries who fail to follow the law could lose public funding.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy says he hopes President Biden will discuss things Americans are sincerely worried about during tonight’s State of the Union address. Over the last several days, Americans watched a Chinese spay balloon cross the entire country before the White House ordered it shot down. Cassidy says they also watch tens of thousands cross the Mexican border weekly, without restriction or regulation…:

An Opelousas man has been arrested in connection with the late January break-in at Zoosiana in Broussard, and the theft of several squirrel monkeys. 61-year-old Joe Randall is charged with burglary and animal cruelty. No monkeys have been recovered.

A weird story out of St. Tammany Parish this morning, as a Florida woman, armed with a blowtorch, led police on a high speed chase in a graffiti’ed school bus before crashing it on a parochial school campus. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Suzanne Carboni says it all started at 6 AM when they received a call from a Mandeville gas station…:

That led to her fleeing from deputies and eventually crashing the bus into a fence at the school. 37-year-old Natalie Jarvis, a resident of Florida, faces numerous charges including flight, terrorizing, hit & run and more.

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy, who saved a car crash victim’s life last month, will be Senator Bill Cassidy’s guest at this year’s State of the Union speech. Will Bankston, an EBRSO Detective, was off duty and driving through Baton Rouge, when he saw the crash, stopped and pulled a male victim from under water and rendered first aid to get him breathing again. He says not long after he heard from the senator’s office..:

The city of Monroe announced the route and street closures for the annual Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade this Saturday night. Louisville Avenue, plus Walnut Street, Washington and North 3rd will be closed for the parade to take place. Janus has paraded in the Twin Cities since 1984.

State Police are now investigating an officer-involved shooting in Shreveport that left one man dead. Very little is known about what happened last Friday night at the Villa Norte apartments. Police Chief Wayne Smith assures a thorough investigation and says his heart goes out to the family of the deceased, 43-year-old Alonzo Bagley…:

23-year-old Officer alexander Tyler has been placed on administrative while the investigation continues.

St. Tammany Parish sees three men overdose – quite probably on fentanyl – within 24 hours over the weekend. All of them relatively healthy men in their 30’s. Parish coroner Dr. Chuck Preston says it’s unusual to see a cluster of such cases like this..:

He urges drug users to get the rescue drug Narcan and keep it handy.

 

LSU-Alexandria announces record enrollment for the spring semester. Director of Admissions Joshua Perrodin says they have 3992 students enrolled this semester, which is the biggest spring class in LSUA history…:

He stopped and saw the front half over the side – in the water below – with the driver still inside…:

State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place at an apartment complex in Shreveport on Friday night. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased male as 43-year-old Alonzo Bagley. Shreveport City Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor says the incident occurred in her district..:

No Shreveport Police officers were injured during the incident. A thorough investigation is underway.

In St. Tammany Parish, three men died of suspected t fentanyl overdoses over the weekend. Coroner Dr. Charles Preston says actual blood toxicology results will take a few weeks, but one of the victim’s meds field-tested positive for Fentanyl…:

Senator John Kennedy wants Louisiana to develop a new methodology to grade public schools. Kennedy says 70-percent of the state’s high schools have received A and B grades, but in reality, we know many of these schools do not deserve such a high rating…:

In Baton Rouge, the special session on the state’s insurance crisis has ended with the Senate passing the $45-million Insure Louisiana Incentive Fund package. The measure reached final passage by a 37-to-1 vote and goes to the Governor.
