In other LSU football news, it turns out LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith tore his ACL when he left the Florida game with a knee injury.

Louisiana Tech is two days away from playing Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Both of these teams go into this bowl game on two game losing streaks. Both teams also have the ability to score a lot of points. But Navy will not have its leading rusher. Quarterback Will Worth is injured, so Zach Abey, who started the season as the third-string QB will start.

For the second straight season, no one from the Saints is on the initial Pro Bowl roster. Quarterback Drew Brees leads the NFL in passing yards and could make the team, if either Matt Ryan, Aaron Rogers or Dak Prescott decide not to play. Defensive end Cam Jordan is another injury replacement possibility. Jordan has 6.5 sacks this season.

It was another All-Star performance for Anthony Davis last night. He had 31 points and 16 rebounds as the Pelicans defeated the 76ers 108-93. Tonight, New Orleans hosts Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In college hoops last night, the Cajuns pounded Pepperdine 90-64, North Texas topped Southeastern 71-65, Florida Gulf Coast clipped Louisiana Tech 79-78 and ULM clobberred Coppin State 65-53.

College baseball…LSU is ranked second in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason poll, the Cajuns are ranked 14th, Tulane 34th and Southeastern 36th.

Governor John Bel Edwards holds a press conference today to review the challenges and successes the state has seen in 2016. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says based on his latest Southern Media and Opinion Research survey, Edwards approval rating is at 64-percent. But Pinsonat says the governor faces a number of challenges in 2017, which will impact his popularity going forward….

Edwards had a meeting with Senator-elect John Kennedy and US Representatives-elect Mike Johnson and Clay Higgins to discuss flood recovery efforts and asked them to push the Housing and Urban Development Department to approve rules on how the state can spend the second installment of federal recovery dollars.

A student at Northshore High School in Slidell has died after a car he was riding in ended up submerged in water in the Salt Bayou area. He’s been identified as Tyler Levy.

The latest data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics finds women earn on average 76-percent of the salary men make in Louisiana. Tulane business professor Dr. Mark Rosa says typically, women spend more time caring for families, and being out of the office could affect earnings, especially in commissioned jobs.

In Louisiana, there’s been a push for several years to pass an Equal Pay Bill requiring companies to pay women the same salary as men for equal work.

The Southern Rail Commission has provided cash to Baton Rouge and a couple of other cities to help develop a passenger rail service that connects Baton Rouge with New Orleans. John Spain is with the commission and the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, he says there’s also talk of passenger trail service between New Orleans and Orlando….

The ACLU of Louisiana is suing the City of Slidell to block an ordinance that requires panhandlers to have a permit. Executive Director Marjorie Esman says Slidell residents have a constitutional right to ask for money, without being forced to get a free permit…:

Slidell has yet to enforce the ordinance, which was passed in October. A spokesperson says they are waiting for the newly elected police chief and mayor to decide how to proceed.

Governor John Bel Edwards met with Senator-elect John Kennedy, along with Congressmen-elect Mike Johnson and Clay Higgins to discuss flood recovery efforts. Edwards says he’s asked the entire Louisiana Congressional delegation to press the Housing and Urban Development department to publish guidelines on how the second round of federal dollars can be used by the state.

A man from Walker is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot several times at a man in a road rage incident. Walker Police Captain John Sharp says 35-year-old Johnny Franz shot at 31-year-old Bradley Deville’s vehicle. He says cops noticed bullet holes in Franz’ vehicle after both men were pulled over..:

State agencies are implementing budget cuts for the current fiscal year today. It’s to the tune of about $277 million dollars, according to Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne. But he says another round of cuts might be necessary and we’ll find out more when the Revenue Estimating Conference meets on January 17th…:

The Department of Health is taking the biggest hit this round, but these are across the board reductions that also hit State Police and Higher Ed.

The state’s revenues will likely get a boost with the news that Amazon will begin collecting state and local sales taxes on purchases made by Louisiana consumers, starting January 1st. State Revenue Secretary Kimberly Robinson hopes other online retailiers follow Amazon’s new policy. It’s a state law that taxes must be paid on internet purchases, but it’s up to the consumer to self report.

Walker Police Captain John Sharp says 35-year-old Johnny Franz and 31-year-old Bradley Deville got into a heated exchange over tailgating. The Saints have placed linebacker Stephone Anthony on injured reserve. The 2015 first-round pick has been slowed by a knee injury and a move to strongside linebacker has not worked out well for him or the Saints. Anthony finishes the season with just 16 tackles.

During his teleconference with reporters, Coach Sean Payton was asked again about that CBS Sports report that said the team would be interested in trading Payton, who signed a new contract earlier this year. Payton declined to comment. NFL analyst Mike Detillier believes this report is an agent generated story…

The 6-and-8 Saints will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday in the final home game of the year.

Back-up quarterback Brandon Harris told a fan on twitter that he will not transfer and he’ll be with the Tigers in 2017. Harris has been on the bench since September, when Danny Etling took over as the Tigers starting quarterback.

A couple of other LSU notes, wide receiver Malachi Dupre says he’s not made a decision on whether he’ll turn pro following the Citrus Bowl. It’s been learned linebacker Kendell Beckwith suffered a torn ACL when he left the Florida game with an injury. Beckwith will not participate in the Senior Bowl.

In college baseball…Collegiate Baseball ranks LSU number two in the country. Three other Louisiana schools are ranked in the Top 40, the Cajuns are ranked 14th, Tulane is 34th and Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 36th.

In college basketball…ULM beat coppin State 65-53 today as Marvin Jean-Pierre led the way with 23 points. Tonight the Cajuns host Pepperdine, Southeastern is at North Texas and Louisiana Tech hosts Florida Gulf Coast.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit on behalf of three panhandlers in Slidell, over an ordinance that requires them to get a permit in order to beg for money on city streets. Louisiana ACLU executive director Marjorie Esman says the city of Slidell’s requirement violates the panhandlers First Amendment Rights….

A Walker man has been charged with attempted murder following a road rage incident. Capt. John Sharp with Walker Police says 35-year-old Johnny Franz was tailgating 31-year-old Bradley Deville, causing Deville to drive even slower. He says the two then stopped at an intersection near Walker Freshman High School. Sharp says at that point Franz invited Deville to step out of the car, and that’s when Deville pulled out a 9mm handgun.

Sharp says Deville then fled onto Interstate 12 as Franz followed him. He says they were pulled over on the interstate, and officers noticed bullet holes in the side of Franz’ car.

Sharp says this incident is especially concerning after two high profile road rage incidents in New Orleans that led to homicides. He says they were fortunate no one was hurt.

Beginning January 1, Amazon will charge sales taxes on purchases made by Louisiana residents. Byron Henderson with the state Department of Revenue says both state and local sales taxes will be added to purchase totals.

Henderson says so far Amazon is the only totally online retailer that has announced they will collect sales taxes. He says the taxes will be filed and remitted with the state and to local jurisdictions in Louisiana.

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says these cuts are being made through attrition – by not hiring people or not filling already vacant positions…:

Dardenne says taking the biggest hit is the Department of Health which will have to cut from medical vendor payments. The state’s colleges are taking an $11 million dollar hit this time. Dardenne says for the first time in about 10 years, higher education did not take a dramatic cut in this budget year…:

Esman says the suit filed on behalf of panhandlers Gary Blitch, David Knight, and Daniel Snyder seeks to find the ordinance illegal and block its enforcement. She says everyone has the right to speak freely, regardless of what they’re speaking about.

Slidell city attorney Brian Haggerty says they have no comment on the lawsuit. Esman says in the past Slidell Police have arrested panhandlers, but the new ordinance was passed in October. She says although the permit is free, it still requires a background check and wearing the permit to avoid being ticketed up to $500. Or facing up to 6 months in jail.

The Saints have reportedly placed linebacker Stephone Anthony on injured reserve. It’s the end to a disappointing season for the second-year player. Anthony led the team in tackles last season at middle linebacker during his rookie campaign. But this season he only had 15 tackles in 10 games as he played strong side linebacker. Antony has been dealing with a knee injury.

The 6-and-8 Saints are getting ready for this Saturday’s home game against Tampa Bay. Many fans are getting frustrated with the team as they are headed for the their third consecutive losing season and might like a change at the top. But NFL analyst Mike Detillier says be careful for what you root for…

There was a report over the weekend the Saints might consider trading Payton in the offseason.

During a Q-and-A session on twitter, LSU’s Brandon Harris said he plans to be back with the Tigers in 2017. The backup QB seems to be excited about new offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Running back Leonard Fournette will not be able to travel with the team to the Citrus Bowl since he has signed with a sports agent. One other LSU note, defensive backs coach Corey Ryamond has agreed to a new three-year contract.

College basketball last night, LSU finished the game on a 10-0 run to beat College of Charleston 75-65. McNeese topped Tulane 70-63, Rice dribbled past Northwestern State 100-93. Today, ULM faces Coppin State, Louisiana Tech hosts Florida Gulf Coast, Southeastern is at North Texas and the Cajuns host Pepperdine.

The first preseason college baseball poll is out and the LSU Tigers are ranked second by Collegiate Baseball. The Ragin Cajuns are ranked 14th, while Tulane is ranked 34th and Southeastern Louisiana ranked 36th.

Shoppers who use Amazon.com can expect to start paying sales taxes on items purchased on their website, after January first. That’s according to a spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Revenue.

Thirteen parishes in Louisiana have been declared a natural disaster area by the US Department of Agriculture because on drought conditions during 2016. The parishes under the designation are in north and central Louisiana. Ag Commissioner Mike Strain….

Three people in Washington Parish are facing charges after a home invasion that led to the stealing of firearms and the sexual assault of a woman in her 50s. Chief Deputy Mike Haley says 48-year-old Robert Lester was the mastermind of the crime and that 17-year-old Deonta Miller of Franklinton executed the break-in…

All of Louisiana’s 8 electors selected Donald Trump for president, and Mike Pence for vice president. Lloyd Harsch spoke following the vote and told reporters he’d received over 90,000 emails and several hundred letters from people urging him not to vote for Mr. Trump. He says he considered every candidate and all of their options…:

The vote took place in the Senate chambers at the State Capitol. There were a few outside, urging the electors not to vote for Trump, because they are concerned about the country’s future…
