The senate approved a 23 month contract extension for the state’s Medicaid managed-care companies unanimously, but House members voted 18-to-6 against it, blocking the Governor’s efforts to help extend high-dollar contracts for five managed-care companies beyond January 2018.  House Appropriations Committee chairman Cameron Henry expects more meetings next month to find more savings in the proposed 15.4-billion-dollar deal.

A 67-year-old grandmother is dead in Plaquemine after her grandson allegedly shot her by mistake.  Police say 19-year-old Blaise Horton reported he was holding a gun he didn’t know contained a bullet when Kathleen Fulton was killed.  Police Chief Kenny Payne says even though this appears to be accidental, the Iberville Parish D.A. will pursue charges…

A fire at LSU injures three electrical workers.  The fire broke out around 930am at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center.  Two of the three were released from the hospital earlier this afternoon.  The building remained closed the rest of the day due to the loss of power there. Several nearby buildings, apartments and churches also lost power…
