Voter turnout was low on the first day of early voting for the runoff, and it doesn’t look like it will improve much by December 10. John Couvillon with JMC Analytics says 27-percent of blacks turned out on the first day of early voting for the presidential race, compared to 19-percent on Saturday.

Couvillon expects overall turnout will be between 17 and 35-percent.

New Orleans officials are exploring ways to make the streets safer following a fatal shooting on Bourbon Street last weekend. NOPD Chief Michael Harrison says metal detectors are used on Beale Street in Memphis, and that’s not being ruled out for the Big Easy.

This has been the 4th major shooting on Bourbon Street in four years.

Lightning, damaging winds and heavy rainfall are in the forecast. State climatologist Barry Keim says the severe weather threat will continue into tonight and tomorrow.

A Baton Rouge woman is behind bars after she hit her husband with a Thanksgiving turkey. Sgt. Don Coppola with Baton Rouge Police says 32-year-old Helen Jackson and her husband were arguing when she pulled a knife on him.

Jackson is charged with aggravated assault and domestic abuse battery.
