Two small children and a 22-year-old woman are dead after a fire that broke out in a Kaplan home yesterday morning. State Fire marshal chief deputy Brant Thompson says 22-year-old Felicie Cloteaux was the adult who perished in the blaze. Thompson says her body was recovered from the home still clutching the two small children in her arms…

Thompson says they don’t have an official cause of the blaze, but they suspect an electrial malfunction.

A 22-year-old New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to the shooting of a Tulane medical student who tried to stop an attempted kidnapping of a woman in the Lower Garden District. Authorities say Euric Cain shot Peter Gold once and tried to shoot him again, but the gun jammed. Cain will be formally sentenced next week to a 50-year prison sentence.

Analysts are predicting a runoff in Lousiaina’s 4th District Congressional race. LSU Shreveport political science professor Jeffrey Sadow says Democrat Marshall Jones will face a Republican in the run-off, but says former Republican state senator Elbert Guillory is a long shot to be in that runoff…

The Pegasus Equine Guardian Association is raising concerns about Fort Polk’s efforts to rehome over 700 horses that roam on the Army base. PEGA President Amy Hanchey says about 150-thousand American horses are sent to slaughter houses each year, and they’re afraid that’s where these horses will end up because the horse market is already flooded…
