The Louisiana Department of Health has updated the number of Zika and West Nile cases in the state. There are now 26 confirmed cases of West Nile in Louisiana so far this year. There were no deaths linked to West Nile in 2016. There are 31 confirmed Zika cases in the state so far. All of the cases of Zika virus were travel related and there has been no local transmission.

 

Congressman Garret Graves says he’s upset that the proposal to get 500 million dollars in federal aid to flood victims is wrapped up in politics. Graves says when you look at the tens of thousands of people that need help getting back in their homes $500 million doesn’t go far.

Livingston Parish Schools have received over 100-thousand dollars in donations to help teachers and students in the flood recovery. Superintendent Rick Wentzel says the St. Tammany Parish Public School system really stepped up.
