The Advisory Council on Student Behavior finds more than one thousand kindergartners were suspended during last school year. New Orleans attorney and chairwoman of the council, Jennifer Coco, says the main reasons students are getting suspended is being disrespectful or disobedient. But she says she doesn’t believe kicking a student out of school will teach them to be more respectful.

Buckwheat Zydeco, legendary accordionist and singer, passed away this morning of lung cancer at the age of 68. Stanley Dural, Jr, better known as Buckwheat, helped to introduce the Louisiana Zydeco music to the world. He performed during the 1996 summer Olympics closing ceremony, President Bill Clinton’s inauguration, and was featured on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Dural was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of 2013.
