Congressman Garret Graves doesn’t think the disaster aid package will be enough to help flood victims. He says when you look at the tens of thousands of people that need assistance to get back in their homes, $500 million doesn’t go anywhere.

Graves says the money would be spread across 16 states.

An activist group in New Orleans says they will remove the statue of Andrew Jackson from Jackson Square on Saturday. Malcom Suber with Take Em Down NOLA says they feel they are within their rights because the city council voted to remove confederate statues in New Orleans.

City officials say they support peaceful protest, but not vandalizing public property.

Hunters for the Hungry is hosting thier annual Clean Out Your Freezer Day on Sunday. HFH Executive Director Jimmy Anthony says this is a chance for hunters to get their freezers ready for the upcoming hunting season, and give to those in need.

He says they aren’t accepting any meat that’s over a year old.

The Advisory Council on Student Behavior has made surprising discoveries about student discipline in Louisiana, including the found that over a thousand kindergartners were suspended during the last school year. Chairwoman of the council, Jennifer Coco, says they want to find better ways to discipline students than kicking them out of class.

Coco says the 24-member council will meet three times a year and present their findings to BESE.
