Louisiana State Police say excessive speed was likely a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash yesterday evening near Maurepas. They say the victim, 35-year-old Irvin Lachney, wrecked on La 22 east of LA 16 around 6:45pm. Investigators believe Lachney was speeding and lost control in a curve when he hit an embankment and was thrown from the bike. He died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales.

Flu season is right around the corner and that means it’s time for your flu shot. Bill Schaffner with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases says everyone older than six months of age should be getting a vaccination because there is no excuse not to do it:

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 100 children lost their lives to the flu last season and 90 percent of them were not vaccinated.

New Orleans Senator JP Morrell leads a new study commission trying to determine how much Louisiana agencies spend on the death penalty. Morrell, a Democrat, says several factors must be considered when determining the expense…:
