A new state law banning drivers from using their cell phone in a school zone was supposed to go into effect on August 1st, but the bill in its final form from this last legislation session requires signs be posted warning people of the ban. So far various cities and parishes are working to get those signs out and once that happens it will be illegal to use your hand held cell phone while driving through a posted school zone.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will hold a series of public meetings across the state to provide an update on black bear research.
