Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy has introduced bipartisan legislation to help families when it comes to paying for caregivers. The Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act allows families to use their tax-free health savings account to cover those expenses.

Currently, adult children cannot use their HSA account to cover expenses they incur on behalf of aging parents unless their parents are classified as dependents for tax purposes.

Linda Frickey’s family feels justice was served after 18-year-old John Honore was found guilty of second-degree murder by a unanimous jury on Monday. Honore was the driver in the horrific New Orleans carjacking that killed Frickey. Her sister-in-law, Kathy Richard says the guilty verdict doesn’t bring Linda back but it brings closure.

In light of recent house fire tragedies, The State Fire Marshall’s office reminds Louisianans about the importance of working smoke alarms and home heating safety The gave the following recommendations: Place space heaters 3-5 feet from objects like blankets, curtains and other combustibles. Plug all heating appliances directly into wall outlets, not power strips or extension cords. Avoid the using stoves or ovens to heat homes. Don’t overfill fireplaces or wood-burning stoves and ensure proper ventilation and Never leave candles, open flames, or space heaters unattended.

Linda Frickey’s family feels justice was served after 18-year-old John Honore was found guilty of second-degree murder by a unanimous jury on Monday. Three other teens charged in the 2022 carjacking death pleaded guilty last week to attempted manslaughter in exchange for 20-year sentences. Frickey’s sister-in-law, Kathy Richard says Honore should serve the maximum possible punishment of life in prison if convicted and she hopes the memory of that horrific day lives with him forever.

Honore could possibly be up for parole in 25 years.

The investigation continues into Saturday’s house fire in Elton that appears to have claimed the life of a 67 year old man and his dog. Cause of the man’s death is pending but authorities have determined the fire began near where the victim was found. No working smoke alarms were found in the home.

There’s growing concern among veterinarians over a mystery respiratory disease among dogs that’s difficult to treat. Brooke Thorington has more.

Grambling is parting ways with Head Coach Hue Jackson after two seasons. Grambling lost to Southern in the Bayou Classic and finished the 2023 season 5-6. During Jackson’s 2 years his record is 8 and 14. Jackson served two years of his 4 year $1.6 Million contract. Grambling will reportedly pay the remaining portion of Jackson’s salary over the current fiscal year.

Tis the Season… for firing of Head Football coaches. The latest to fall is Grambling State’s Hue Jackson — fired after only two seasons.

Grambling lost to Southern in the Bayou Classic and finished the 2023 season 5-6. During Jackson’s 2 years his record is 8 and 14.

Jackson served two years of his four-year one point six million dollar contract that paid him an annual salary of $400,000. Grambling will reportedly pay the remaining portion of Jackson’s salary over the current fiscal year.

So Far, Louisiana has seemingly escaped A rapidly progressing mystery respiratory disease among dogs but it is raising concern among veterinarians. New Orleans veterinarian Dr. Claire Guichard says because it is a respiratory disease, your dog has to come in close contact with another dog to catch it.

Linda Frickey’s sister-in-law says justice was served after 18-year-old John Honore was found guilty of second-degree murder in the brutal New Orleans carjacking.  Kathy Richard says the murder was intentional and Honore could have made different choices.

A mystery respiratory disease among dogs in 12 states so far, is raising concern among veterinarians. New Orleans veterinarian Dr. Claire Guichard says while no cases have been reported in Louisiana there have been cases in Florida and Georgia. Symptoms include coughing, eye and nose discharge, and lethargy.

She says some dogs have died from the disease and it comes on rather fast.

The Nicholls State football team was stranded in a small airport for 22 hours this weekend after losing their playoff game. Nicholls’ Athletic Director Jonathan Terrell says it was a frustrating situation made worse when they weren’t able to get any answers from Eastern Airlines, the charter flight company.

Black Friday sales show online holiday shopping increased by seven percent over last year. Holiday shoppers spent nearly $10 billion in online sales in the U-S on Black Friday. LSU Marketing Professor Dan Rice says holiday shopping is starting to normalize following the post-pandemic surge in shopping.

Caddo Parish Sheriff candidate John Nickelson has file a lawsuit seeking a new runoff election against Henry Whitehorn, who won after a recount by one vote. Political Analyst Scott Hughes says a district court judge is set to hear the case Thursday.

After losing to Southern Illinois on Saturday, the Nicholls State football team was stranded in a small airport for 22 hours. Nicholls’ Athletic Director Jonathan Terrell says the restaurants closed overnight in the small airport, they had no transportation and were unable to book a hotel last minute due to the size of the party.

The team finally made it home Sunday night. The NCAA coordinates post-season travel from teams.

The National Retail Federation predicted a three to four percent growth online…but this year’s numbers nearly doubled that. LSU Marketing Professor Dan Rice says many large retailers marketing used to excite shoppers to begin Black Friday shopping at midnight for the best prices. But that’s a thing of the past.

After losing to Southern Illinois on Saturday, the Nicholls State football team was stranded in a small airport for 22 hours. Nicholls’ Athletic Director Jonathan Terrell said first it was a pilot issue with the chartered flight, then the next flight was canceled. But he says they made the best of it and finally made it home Sunday night.

He won’t be sentenced until January, but 18 year old John Honore has been convicted of second degree murder in the dragging death of 74 year old Linda Frickey last year. An Orleans Parish returned the conviction, which carries a mandatory life sentence, after a three hour deliberation last night.

It could be a while before Caddo Parish residents know who their next Sheriff will be now that a lawsuit has been filed in the race that’s already involved a one vote win and a re-count. A district court judge is set to take a look at Republican John Nickelson case calling for a new recall election against Democrat Henry Whitehorn. Political Analyst Scott Hughes on how it’s all gone so far…

Interstate 59 northbound near the Honey Island Swamp exit is closed northbound after an 18-wheeler involved in an accident with another vehicle overturned. Responders say one person was hurt and was transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities also say that the 18-wheeler was hauling live chickens. Northbound traffic is being diverted to Exit 3 at Military Road.
