A shooting in Evangeline Parish last night claims the life of Ville Platte Deputy City marshal Barry Giglio and another man. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says the sheriff’s office was attempting to execute a search and once they entered a home gunfire erupted. Gossen says it’s an active investigation.

State Transportation is hosting a public meeting at 5 tonight to discuss the widening of the I-20 in Monroe. D-O-T-D Spokesperson Erin Buchanan says they want to provide information on the project and get input from the public.

Today is the last day for homeowners who received damage from the 20 and 21 hurricanes to complete a survey for assistance. Saints running back Alvin Kamara is still facing a possible suspension after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from his role in a fight outside a Las Vegas night club in 2022. The 28-year-old plans to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to give his side of the arrest. Under the NFL’s conduct policy Kamara is likely to see up to a six game suspension to start the season but Saints coach Dennis Allen says Kamara’s ready to get this behind him…

Allen and Saints GM Mickey Loomis previously said they hadn’t heard anything from the league on Kamara’s suspension and a ruling could come at any time.

After seventeen shots and six on goal, the US Women’s National Team scraped out a 0-to-0 draw against Portugal to advance to the knockout stage of the World Cup. They finish as the runner up in Group E behind the Netherlands and will play again 4:00 A.M. Sunday.

Saints offensive guard Andrus Peat left practice with a quad injury yesterday. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but Coach Dennis Allen said it looked more like a strain than the season ending tear Trai Turner suffered last week. Turner has been placed on IR and New Orleans brought back Koda Martin who was waived to make room for Turner on the roster. The Saints also added former Jets defensive end Kyle Phillips after 25-year-old Jabari Zuniga unexpectedly retired.

Nine Louisiana high schools, six from Rapides Parish and five from the Monroe area, have filed a lawsuit over the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s current select-nonselect playoff system. These schools are upset the LHSAA moved several non-select schools to the select side. They believe Executive Director Eddie Bonine didn’t have the authority to do this. The LHSAA says the executive committee made this decision and schools had the opportunity to provide input.

Four-time All-Sun Belt Hurdler Sydney Clemens signed a national-letter-of-intent with LSU. The Coastal Carolina senior will be joining an all-star casted hurdles group that includes three All-Americans in Alia Armstrong, Shani’a Bellamy, and Leah Phillips. This will mark a reunion for Bellamy and Clemens who were both previously teammates at Coastal.

Louisiana drivers insured by State Farm will see a significant surge in their auto premiums. State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says 29 percent of motorists in Louisiana have State Farm coverage.

The commissioner says he’s unhappy to impose additional costs to State Farm policyholders and urges policyholders to compare price and coverage.

Homeowners who suffered damage from hurricanes in 2020 and 2021, today is the last day to complete a survey in order to be considered for financial assistance for damages. The Restore Louisiana program is providing grant dollars to homeowners to help with home repair and reconstruction and reimbursement of completed repairs. Director of the Office of Community Development Pat Forbes says the survey takes ten minutes to complete…

Since the program began in February 2022, more than 33-thousand homeowners have completed the survey and funding has been offered to over 3-thousand.

Extreme summer heat can slow down reproduction in livestock. Director of the Beef Cattle Research Center at Southern Doctor Pat Bagley says livestock cattle producers are making sure the cattle have plenty of salt because they are losing a lot of salt during the sweat process…

Bagley says fewer cattle will result in a decline in supply, which means higher prices for consumers at the grocery store.

Voters are showing a lack of interest in the races that are developing for governor and the other open statewide seats.  JMC Analytics and Polling pollster John Couvillon says that typically there’s a 45 to 50 percent turnout for a gubernatorial election but numbers are currently at the lower end of that spectrum…

The Louisiana Lottery made over $653 million for the fiscal year 2023 with the highest profit in the state’s history. Lottery spokesperson Kimberly Chopin says the introduction of the $20 scratch-off has also increased their revenue.

A Ville Platte Deputy City Marshall and one other person were killed and another person was critically injured in a shoot-out in Ville Platte Monday night. Authorities say the shooting occurred when law enforcement in the 100 block of West Beauregard Street around 8:30 p.m.  The Deputy Marshall has been identified as Barry Giglio. The investigation is ongoing.

A police officer and another person were killed last night in a shooting in Ville Platte. State Police say a third person was sent to a local hospital with critical injuries. Very few details are known. At this point we don’t know which law enforcement agency the deceased officer worked for.

Two people, including a law enforcement officer, were fatally shot last night in Ville Platte. A third person was also shot and taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. Details are scarce and it’s unknown what law enforcement agency the officer worked for.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara plans to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as he’s facing a suspension for his involvement in a fight outside of a Las Vegas nightclub in February 2022. Kamara reached a plea agreement and plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge. He faces a possible suspension from the NFL.

Saints offensive guard Andrus Peat injured his quadriceps at practice yesterday. Severity of the injury is not known.

The Saints have signed defensive end Kyle Phillips. Phillips spent the last three seasons with the Jets and recorded 2.5 sacks and 65 tackles in 29 games.

First round pick Bryan Bresee (Bruh-zee) met with the media for the first time since training camp started and the defensive tackle says he’s focusing on technique…

State Police is reporting a law enforcement officer was fatally shot in the Evangeline Parish town of Ville Platte last night. No word on which law enforcement agency this officer was working with. The only other information we have is that two people were shot, one them has critical injuries, the other an officer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
