The Louisiana National Guard has fired the commander of its 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. An investigation determined Colonel Scott Desormeaux sent inappropriate text messages to other service members. The Army Times reports Desormeaux presided over the 256th’s 2020-21 deployment to Iraq and Syria.

Flu-like illnesses in Louisiana are at a five-year high according to the C-D-C. LSU Health New Orleans Infectious Disease expert Doctor Fred Lopez says two-thirds of flu activity is occurring in people young than 25 years of age. So Lopez advises staying home if sick, washing hands frequently, and getting the flu vaccine…

The SEC West Champion Tigers will close out the regular season Saturday in College Station. Coach Brian Kelly has led the Bayou Bengals to a 9-2 record with a chance at the College Football Playoffs in his first season. The Saints won their 400th game in franchise history on Sunday when they defeated the Rams 27-20. Now its on to San Francisco. The 49ers rolled past the Cardinals 38-10 last night in Mexico City. San Fran has won three in a row and they are 6-and-4 on the season.

For the second time this season, the Warriors visited New Orleans and rested their top guys and the Pelicans took advantage. New Orleans easily won last night 128-83. The 45-point margin was the second largest in franchise history as the Pels closed out a six-game homestand with a four and two record. This Thanksgiving the National Wildlife Federation wants you to know wild turkeys were almost wiped out. The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says after WW2 Louisiana’s population was down to just 1500 wild birds. The Wildlife Federation says the national population was once two percent of its former numbers. The Wildlife Federation’s John Kanter says it wasn’t easy to bring them back.

Kanter says when breeders started separating members of turkey flocks to reduce the fighting the populations grew.

Kanter says nationally the population has reached 7 million birds. He says Louisiana doesn’t track the total population but reports it is declining. Louisiana does have a limited wild turkey hunting season. He estimates about 20 thousand Louisiana hunters hunt the birds.

So far Attorney General Jeff Landry has formally announced his candidacy for governor and US Senator John Kennedy says he’s highly considering it. Senator Bill Cassidy says he’s not running, and Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says he’s going to conduct polling next month and announce his decision in January.

The 63-year-old New Orleans native has served as Lt. Governor since 2016 and is also the former President of Plaquemines Parish. When asked if he would run against fellow Republican John Kennedy, Nungesser says he plans to talk to him first.

The state GOP formally announced their endorsement of Landry earlier this month and Nungesser called for LAGOP chairman Louis Gurvich and others to resign. Nungesser who he says his own father helped build in the state party, says he’s disgusted over how the party has evolved.

Authorities have identified 31-year-old Ruben Ernesto Dorado of Miami as the man who stabbed DOTD worker Darrell Guillory Sunday along I-10 near Port Allen. Guillory was a Motorist Assistance Patrol worker and DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson says they perform services to assist stranded motorists.

On a day that saw several top-ranked college football teams play close games, sixth-ranked LSU easily defeated UAB 41-10 in the final home game of the season. Coach Brain Kelly said the team played well in a late-season game against a team they should beat.

The LSU Men’s basketball team opened the Cayman Island Classic with a 77-61 win over Illinois State. The Tigers improved  to 4-0 on the season behind a spectacular 33 point performance from fifth-year senior KJ Williams. They advance to the semi-finals tomorrow at 12:30 against Akron.

SLU will host Idaho in the first round of the FCS Playoffs Saturday. The Southland Conference Champion Lions will make their fifth FCS playoff appearance in program history and second time in back-to-back years. Kickoff in Strawberry Stadium is at 6 p.m.

The Saints ended their two game losing streak behind a three touchdown performance from quarterback Andy Dalton in a 27-20 win over the Rams yesterday. Dalton and the offense were clicking for the first time in weeks, throwing for 260 yards and no interception and completing passes to nine different receivers…

The USMNT opened their 2022 World Cup with a 1-1 draw to Wales. After coming out to a 1-nothing lead in the first half, Wales tied the game with a penalty in the 82nd minute. The US will face England on Friday.

The 9-7 Pelicans will host the Warriors tonight. The defending NBA champs have had a slow start to the season and will be without Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green tonight. Meanwhile the Pelicans will look to bounce back from a loss to the Celtics before going on a two-game road trip.

State Police has released the name of the man who witnesses say attacked a DOTD worker with a knife killing him on Interstate Ten yesterday, before West Baton Rouge Sheriff Deputies shot and killed the suspect. Retired BRPD officer Darrell Guillory was helping the driver around noon. Witnesses called the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies, who killed the attacker. Wilson says Guillory joined DOTD in 2017.

He says the Motorist Assistance Patrol is one of the DOTD’s most popular services.

Holiday travel means more traffic and that means more accidents. AAA wants to remind motorists to “Slow Down and Move Over” for emergency crews. Those crews include law enforcement, ambulances, and tow truck operators. Spokesperson Don Redman says failure do so in Louisiana can cost you $200.

Redman says nearly a quarter of those surveyed aren’t aware of the Move Over law. And it’s not just emergency responders who are injured, since 2015,  1,600 people have been struck or killed while outside of a disabled vehicle in the US.

In addition to cellphone usage when you’re behind the wheel, Redman says when traveling familiar roadways motorists tend to daydream and get distracted. One way to avoid that is to follow what you’re told in driver’s ed and check your mirrors every three to five seconds.

Dehaan credited the decreasing price of oil for the price drop. The ongoing lockdown of China’s economy and decreased oil consumption combined with refineries returning to production from maintenance have helped to decrease the price at the pump.
