When LSU faces Alabama on Saturday November fifth. The game will kick off at 6 PM. It will be the Tigers first night game in Death Valley since the September 24th win against New Mexico.

The Pelicans will be shorthanded tonight when they host the Dallas Marvericks. The team has announced that Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones will not play. Williamson has a hip-and-back contusion from a hard fall in Sunday’s loss to Utah. Ingram is in concussion protocol and Jones has a hyperextended knee. Tip time in NOLA is at 6:30.

Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi has been picked to win the Southland Conference in Men’s basketball. Nicholls is picked to finish second, followed by UNO, Southeastern, McNeexse and Northwestern State.

Destrehan is ranked number one still in the Class 5A Louisiana Sports Writers Association high school football poll. Parkway and Southside have entered the Top 10. The tenth ranked Sharks are 7-and-1 after beating Acadiana 22-7 last Friday. Parkway is also 7-and-1 and they are ranked ninth and will visit Airline on Thursday. Several games are getting moved to Thursday because of the possiblty of bad weather on Friday.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is trying to fill 400 vacancies in a hurry. So they’re hosting job fairs around the state through December 15th. Secretary Marketa Garner Walters says they’re looking for people with big hearts.

Baton Rouge Representative Edmond Jordan is asking voters to vote against his proposed Constitutional Amendment seven on the November 8th ballot, because he says the ballot language is confusing. Council for a Better Louisiana President Barry Erwin also opposes the amendment that deals with a form of slavery…

Erwin says the intent of the amendment was to restrict the use of involuntary servitude, to make sure it’s only permitted as a form of criminal punishment.

The suspected gunman in Friday’s early morning shooting at an off-campus fraternity house at Southern University, 22-year-old Jaicedric Williams was out on bond and had posted bond twice within a month, in October of 2020 on separate domestic violence and attempted armed robbery charges. Bail for the 11 counts of attempted murder from the Friday shooting was denied.

LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels is the SEC Offensive Player of the Week . Daniels accounted for five touchdowns in the Tigers 45-20 victory over the previously undefeated Ole Miss Rebels. He threw for 248 yards and rushed for 121 yards. Linebacker Harold Perkins was named co-freshman of the week as he recorded five tackles, one sack and two quarterback hurries. Sophomore Mekhi Wingo was named defensive lineman of the week, as he had seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and two pass break ups.

Cajuns Quarterback Ben Wooldridge was named the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Week after throwing a school record-tying five touchdowns in a win over Arkansas State. U-L Lafayette’s other quarterback Chandler Fields is available for Thursday’s game at Southern Miss after missing the last two games due to injury, but Coach Michael Desormeaux says Wooldridge will start.

The Saints are getting ready for their next game this Sunday versus the Las Vegas Raiders. Injuries have contributed to the team’s two and five record. They played their last game without starters Jameis Winston, Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Andrus Peat and Marshon Lattimore. Coach Dennis Allen is optimistic they’ll get some guys back for Sunday’s game against the Raiders…

Chambers is a civil rights activist from Baton Rouge and ran last year for Congress in the 2nd district. He believes that race helped build up his base, which makes him the Democrats best chance to defeat Kennedy….

Steib is the executive director of a non-profit called Operation Restoration. It helps women and girls who were incarcerated restore their lives. Steib says she will push for federal laws to uplift people…

The other major Democrat in the race is Luke Mixon. He did not attend yesterday’s forum. Kennedy says his schedule and other reasons have permitted him particpating in any debates with his challengers.

Early voting for the Nov. 8th Election begins today and continues through next Tuesday except Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Citizens that want to vote early in person may do so at their parish registrar of voters office or at their assigned locations. The election lacks a heated statewide race but Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin still expects half of the state’s registered voters to cast a ballot.

Voters are encouraged to utilize the free smartphone app GeauxVote Mobile to locate early voting locations, and Election Day voting sites, or to view a sample ballot. Ardoin says early voting has become popular.

Voters must have a Louisiana driver’s license, a Louisiana special ID, or a generally recognized ID with a picture and signature. Voters also have the option to use their license via LA wallet. Ardoin says the election does not fall on a Saturday so he expects a lot of people to take advantage of the early voting opportunity.

Current law gives veterans with a service-related disability to claim double the $75-thousand standard homestead exemption on property tax. Currently, disabled vets get double that amount. Procopio says a “yes” vote removes all property tax liability…:

Two candidates running against Senator John Kennedy, participated in a Baton Rouge Press Club forum. Democrats Gary Chambers and Syrita Steib both spoke about how Kennedy’s yet to participate in any debate or forum in his re-election bid.  When asked how they differ from each other Chambers says he’s the only democrat with a track record of running a race that has a voter base after his bid for the 2nd Congressional district.

Steib says her experience getting legislation passed in Louisiana and other states prohibiting public universities from asking questions about criminal history for the purpose of admissions sets her apart.

Chambers says he’d want to see Louisiana State Police under consent decree and says how can we trust their investigations of other law enforcement agencies if they can’t be trusted.

Louisiana’s 4th-grade students lead the country in reading growth according to the Nation’s Report Card released by the National Center for Education Statistics. State Superintendent of Education Doctor Cade Brumley says, over the last two years, Louisiana has implemented a number of policy decisions to curb the state’s long-standing literacy crisis…:
