Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is headed for London today to meet with the heads of Lloyd’s of London and other top insurance underwriters, in hopes of improving the state’s ailing property insurance market. Donelon says over a third of Lloyd’s business is writing reinsurance to cover companies that claim losses. He says Louisiana makes up a good amount of that business…:

Two candidates running against Senator John Kennedy, participated in a Baton Rouge Press Club forum. Democrats Gary Chambers and Syrita Steib . Chambers is a civil rights activist from Baton Rouge and ran last year for Congress in the 2nd district. He believes that race helped build up his base, which makes him the Democrats best chance to defeat Kennedy….

Steib is the executive director of a non-profit called Operation Restoration. It helps women and girls who were incarcerated restore their lives. Steib says she will push for federal laws to uplift people…

The other major Democrat in the race is Luke Mixon. He did not attend yesterday’s forum. Kennedy says his schedule and other reasons have permitted him particpating in any debates with his challengers.
