Attorney Ben Crump is calling on state lawmakers to convene a special session so they could revise the state’s abortion ban, making the medical exceptions more clear. Crump is representing Nancy Davis, who was denied an abortion at a Baton Rouge hospital, even though her fetus has no skull and would die shortly after birth. Crump says the medical exceptions part of the law should be more clear….

Doctors did not want to perform the abortion over concerns they could be charged criminally. Davis will terminate the pregancy in another state.

LSU Police is investigating another attempting kidnapping case. It’s the second time such a crime has been reported during the first week of class. The victim told investigators the attack occurred outside Acadiana Hall and the attacker was a food delivery driver. Campus police say a student was also kidnapped Tuesday night near Cypress Hall and the victim was reported safe.

Nancy Davis was denied an abortion in Louisiana despite being told her baby had a lethal condition in which the skull does not fully form. She says doctors were afraid of being charged criminally if they performed the abortion, so she’s going out of state next week to have a two-day procedure…

Attorneys representing Davis are calling on the legislature to hold a special session to clarify the state’s abortion ban laws.

A preliminary settlement has been reached in the class-action lawsuit against Bob Dean over the evacuation of nursing home patients to a warehouse during Hurricane Ida. Blair Constant, one of the attorneys representing patients, says it equates to about $17-thousand for each patient, and reaching a settlement in such a short time frame is rare.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources announces a 25-million dollar federal grant that will go towards cleaning up abandoned wells. D-N-R spokesperson Patrick Courreges says the funding comes from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and the feds have indicated states will receive additional funding in the coming months….

Farmers could be seeking federal assistance soon if it doesn’t stop raining. Over a foot of rain has fallen in some areas of northeast Louisiana, which is not good for the soybean crop. Farmers are seeing pod degradation and LSU soybean specialist Doctor David Moselely says producers would like to see a run of dry weather to harvest their crop…

Blair Constant, one of the attorneys representing patients, says a trial date of October 3rd has been set.

Saturday marks the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Laura, as the Category 4 storm made landfall in southwest Louisiana. Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter says his outlook has improved immensely since this time last year now that the city has received an allocation of federal supplemental disaster aid.

Courregas says Louisiana’s orphaned well count is around 45-hundred. That number has grown considerably in recent years due to operators going out of business or abandoning the site due to state regulations.

Critics say President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program is a waste of money and a vote grab. Supporters say it provides needed relief. Marsanne Golsby has one young family’s perspective.

Shreveport police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after the suspect yielded a machete. It happened last night around 8:30. After a lengthy negotiation the suspect did put the weapon down but later picked it back up and charged at officers. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The state’s Gaming Control Board says so far sports betting has brought in about $16 and a half million in state revenue this year.  Earlier estimates were $30 million for the year, but Board Chairman Ronnie Johns says those estimates will be revised because football season is just around the corner.

Saturday is the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Laura, and Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter says his outlook has improved greatly from a year ago now that federal supplemental disaster aid has been allocated. Hunter says tomorrow he will spend time with his family and reflect on how the city has recovered so far.

The National Hurricane Center is currently tracking a tropical wave in the Eastern Caribbean Sea that has a low chance of development as it moves towards’ the Yucatan Peninsula. Closer to home, there’s a slight risk of flash flooding for southeast Louisiana. The National Weather Service says rainfall rates of three to four inches per hour are possible with the strongest thunderstorms.

Baton Rouge Judge Wilson Fields has ordered LSU to pay former offensive line coach James Cregg 492-thousand dollars for improperly firing him last year for allegedly violating NCAA rules. Cregg says there’s been no determination he broke the rules, but LSU plans to appeal as they say he held in-person meetings with recruits when face-to-face contact was prohibited because of COVID protocols.

No word on if Quarterback Jameis Winston will play tonight. Rookie left tackle Trevor Penning should get a lot of snaps again tonight with James Hurst hurt. With Pete Werner dealing with a groin injury, several linebackers are looking to hold down his starting spot. Former Destrehan star Kirk Merritt will get a look at running back tonight after making a switch from wide receiver. Kick-off is at 7 PM.

LSU coach Brian Kelly had his first radio show last night and still no announcement on a starting quarterback. Garrett Nussmeier and Jayden Daniels are locked up in a tight battle. Kelly also said true freshman Will Campbell will start at left tackle and they’ll play four running backs, but John Emery Junior will reportedly be suspended for the first two games because of an academic suspension that’s carrying over from last year.

LSU plays Florida State a week from Sunday. The Seminoles have their first game tomorrow afternoon as they will host Duquense. There are a handful of games on the schedule for Week 0 including a contest involving an SEC team, Vanderbilt is at Hawaii.
