The Secretary of State’s office says voter turnout for the November 3rd election was 69-percent, which is up slightly from the 2016 election. A total of two-point-one million voters in Louisiana turned in a ballot. President Donald Trump received 58-percent of the vote, the same percentage he received in 2016.

Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy has won a second six-term year in office as he cruised to a victory last night over 14 challengers. Cassidy celebrated his victory in his hometown of Baton Rouge and vowed to return to DC to fight for his constituents….

The fifth Congressional District race is headed to a run-off featuring two Republicans, former Congressman Ralph Abraham’s chief of staff Luke Letlow and Alexandria State Representative Lance Harris.

ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says it’s not surprising in the deeply conservative district that a Democrat failed to make the runoff.

Stockley says GOP vs. GOP runoffs have been the case since former Congressman Rodney Alexander retired seven years ago.

Stockley says Letlow is the favorite due to his impressive half-million dollar fundraising effort but don’t count Harris out because anything could happen in a month.

Polls close in 30 minutes in Louisiana but if you get in line by 8 PM you will still be allowed to cast a ballot. Polls have already closed in Georgia, North Carolina, and most of Florida, three key, close swing that’s that could decide the Presidential race. Should those states all go for President Trump it could be several days before we know a winner.

Polls in Georgia and most of Florida will close in less than three hours giving us our first taste of just how the night may be going for President Donald Trump and his challenger former VP Joe Biden. JMC Analytics publisher John Couvillon says Biden is favored to win because the President has the tougher task in that he’s unlikely to expand his 2016 electoral map and is playing defense across a wide range of states.

Counting mail-in ballots is the most time-consuming process of an election and with COVID, there are a record-breaking number of absentee ballots in Louisiana, but new law changes that. Slidell Senator Sharon Hewitt authored Senate Bill 22 which allowed election officials to prep mail-in ballots four days ago to be counted. Hewitt received input from election officials to change absentee ballot procedures.
