Hurricane Zeta did a lot of damage to citrus crops and nurseries in southeast Louisiana, the most hurricane damage suffered in the area since Katrina in 2005.
LSU Ag Center Horticultural Agent Joe Willis says growers lost 75 to 90 percent of the fruit in impacted areas. The worst damage was in the poinsettia crops. Willis says 95 percent of the holiday staple crop was lost in southeast Louisiana.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced a major technology agreement in northwest Louisiana Tuesday at LSU-Shreveport. The more than $3-million agreement with the university and LED will help advance students’ careers in technology.
The LSU-S technology agreement is the latest in a series of milestones along the I-20 Cyber Corridor. Edwards says when he visits the Nation’s Capital, leaders are impressed with growing advancements.

LSU Ag Center Horticultural Agent Joe Willis says the late timing of the storm was brutal for vegetable farmers who had already transitioned to their fall crops. He says the damage is less than for the fruits, only about half were lost.

Mayor Latoya Cantrell announced that the City of New Orleans will enter Phase 3.3 Nov. 11
The biggest changes include larger capacities for indoor and outdoor gatherings and indoor seating for bars.
Indoor gatherings can now include up to 100 people. The city stressed that the venue must be large enough to allow for people to be six feet apart.
Outdoor gatherings can now increase to 150 people.

A COVID outbreak on the LSU football team has led to the postponement and possible cancellation of this weekend’s contest in Tiger Stadium against Alabama. Matt Doyle has the story.

Two other SEC games scheduled for this Saturday are also postponed, Mississippi State-Auburn and Texas A-and-M against Tennessee. There’s a report LSU-Alabama could be played next week and the Tigers-Arkansas game scheduled for November 21st would be moved to December 19th, the date of the SEC Championship game.

ULM’s football game at Arkansas State this Saturday has been postponed until December 12the due to COVID-19 concerns with the Warhawk program.

The LHSAA announces they still plan on holding its football championship games in the Superdome December 26th to the 28th. The regular season ends next weekend and for teams to qualify for the playoffs, they must have played four games. Executive Director Eddie Bonine is glad they’ve made it this far with a vast majority of the games being played…

Bonine says if a team can’t compete in a playoff game because of COVID, their season will end and their opponent advances to the next round.

Farmers were either mid-harvest for some fruits like satsumas or just weeks away from picking their harvest.

Willis says the late timing of the storm was brutal for vegetable farmers who had already transitioned to their fall crops. He says the damage is less than for the fruits, only about half were lost.

Cauliflower in particular took a beating, with the top leaves being torn from the plants leaving them alive, but discolored and difficult to sell.

The worst damage was in the poinsettia crops. Willis says 95 percent of the holiday staple crop was lost in southeast Louisiana.

Dodd says the cancellation also leads to a crisis of legitimacy for the College Football Playoffs if the SEC doesn’t manage to get a full season in.

Dodd says the rash of COVID outbreaks in the sport could result in New Orleans no longer hosting a first-round college football playoff game as officials seek to create a playoff bubble.

Even though we are seeing more and more canceled high school football games because of COVID-19, the LHSAA is moving forward with plans to have a postseason, with the championship games at the Superdome from December 26th to the 28th. Executive Director Eddie Bonine says teams must play four games to make the playoffs and the size of the playoff brackets will not change

Bonine says schools with a COVID issue during the postseason will be removed from the bracket and their opponent will advance to the next round.

This Saturday’s LSU-Alabama game has been postponed, because of a coronavirus outbreak with the Fighting Tigers football team. It remains to be seen if the game can still be played this season, but it will take the shuffling around of other games, since the Tigers do not have another by off week before the SEC Championship game on December 19th.

And there’s the situation with freshman LSU wide receiver Koy Moore, who claims officers harassed him on Saturday night as they suspected he was in possession of a gun and drugs. Three Baton Rouge Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave. Athletics Director Scott Woodward called it a troubling encounter, while Coach Ed Orgeron says…

The LSU-Alabama game is not the only SEC contest postponed for this weekend. Texas A-and-M versus Tennessee will not be played because of a COVID-outbreaking involving the Aggies football team. On Monday, it was announced Saturday’s Mississippi State-Auburn game has been tentatively moved to December 12th.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the NFL owners have approved a proposal to add two playoff teams, one in each conference, in case regular-season games get canceled. That means there will be eight playoff teams in each conference and the top seed would not get a bye.

The NBA and its players’ association have agreed to begin a shortened 72-game regular season on December 22nd. The NBA Draft is set for Wednesday, November 18th and then free agency would begin on November 20th. The salary cap and luxury tax remain unchanged from last season.

A reschedule could be tough given the Tigers already had to put off their game against Florida earlier this season.

Deployment ceremonies for the 256th Brigade of the Louisiana National Guard began today as they depart for a yearlong mission.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, head of the Republican Attorneys General Association, asks the US Supreme Court to hear a case challenging the legality of many Pennsylvania mail-in ballots. Before the November 3rd election the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that mail-in ballots that arrived after polls closed could be counted. Landry says those votes shouldn’t count.

Under the ruling, a vote could be counted as long as the mail-in ballot was postmarked by Election Day.

Baton Rouge Police Internal Affairs are leading an investigation into claims by LSU freshman wide receiver Koy Moore that he was harassed and violated by cops who accused him of having drugs and a gun. Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul says the officers face additional training and potential punishment if it’s found they treated Moore unfairly…

The Republican Attorneys General Association, headed by Louisiana AG Jeff Landry, asks the US Supreme Court to declare many Pennsylvania mail-in ballots illegal. Matt Doyle has the story.

LSU and Bama will not play in Baton Rouge Saturday as previously planned due to a COVID outbreak on the LSU team reportedly linked to a Halloween party. Due to a combination of positive tests and mandatory quarantines, LSU will not have the minimum number of scholarship players on the roster necessary to compete in SEC play. The hope is to reschedule to game into later this year, but LSU is already having to play one COVID rescheduled game later in the season, that one against Florida.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is leading the national Republican AG’s association effort to get the US Supreme Court to invalidate ballots received in Pennsylvania after 8 PM on Election Night, citing Pennsylvania state law. Landry says this challenge is about preserving election integrity.

The state Supreme Court ruled that any ballot post marked as of Election Day would be valid.
