The omnibus “tort” reform bill this year would push the jury trial threshold for lawsuits from 50,000 dollars to 15,000 dollars. A Holden teen is dead and four others badly hurt following a crash on US Highway 190 in Livingston Parish early Sunday morning.  State Police Trooper Taylor Scrantz says it was raining when the crash occurred and due to the severity of the wreck, investigators are not sure who was driving in order to perform a toxicology report.

Scrantz says 16-year-old Nathan Raymond, who died at the scene, was not buckled up. Raymond played basketball for Holden High School. The other four passengers were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

28-year-old Cameron Harville of Natchitoches died after striking a home along LA highway 494 and being ejected from his car. State Police Trooper Casey Wallace says there’s no guarantee that Harville would’ve survived the crash if he was buckled up, but his odds would have been a lot better.

The National Federation of Independent Business says with the increase in small business internet sales, this year is the year for the legislature to move to simplify and centralize sales tax collections. NFIB State Director Dawn Starns says it’s begun heavily impacting small businesses who have to jump through hoops to report their taxes.

A 28-year-old is dead after his vehicle left the road along highway 494, before striking a home and vehicle early this morning. State Police Trooper Casey Wallace says Cameron Harville of Natchitoches was not wearing a seatbelt, and so was ejected from the vehicle leading to severe injuries.

LSU football fans should start to prepare for a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah. The Tigers and the Utes have agreed to a home-and-home football series in 2031 and 2032. The first game will be played in Salt Lake and the Utes will return the trip to Tiger Stadium in 2032. This continues the trend of LSU signing up for more home and home series with Power Five Schools. Over the next decade, the Tigers will host Texas, UCLA, Clemson, Oklahoma and Arizona State at Tiger Stadium.

The LSU basketball team has fallen out of the AP Top 25. The Bayou Bengals were ranked 25th last week, but lost to Alabama 88-82 in their third defeat in their last four games. LSU has also fallen out of first place, but can get back into a first-place tie with a win over Kentucky tomorrow. The Wildcats will be in the PMAC for an eight PM tip.

In action tonight, Grambling is at Texas Southern, while Southern University hosts Mississippi Valley State.

The 11th ranked LSU Tigers won two of three from Indiana over the opening weekend of the college baseball season. The Bayou Bengals hit three home runs. Freshman Cade Doughty hit a dinger in his first college at bat. Coach Paul Mainieri liked what he saw from the rookie second baseman…

The Tigers host Southern tomorrow. The Jaguars went two and two at the Andre Dawson Classic in New Orleans over the weekend, including a seven to five loss to Grambling.

It was a great opening weekend for Louisiana Tech. They beat the Ragin Cajuns twic and defeated Southeastern Louisiana two to nothing. Junior Jarret Whorff was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The junior from Texas threw 6.1 scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over U-L Lafayette yesterday.

State Police Trooper Casey Wallace says the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 494 when it left the road for an unknown reason and careened into the private residence early this morning.

The LSU basketball team is gearing up for a big game tomorrow night as Big Blue comes to town. The Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats are set to tip-off at 8 PM. Kentucky is in first place in the SEC and they have won four in a row, since losing to Auburn. LSU is now in a tie for second place after losing to Alabama on Saturday. The Tigers have lost three of their last four since winning their first eight SEC games.

Conference USA has finalized its bonus play schedule. Louisiana Tech will visit first-place North Texas on Saturday. The Bulldogs are on a two-game winning streak after beating Florida Atlantic 81-68 on Saturday. Senior guard Derric Jean had a career-high 21 points to lead the way. The Miami native says he wanted to play well on Senior Day…

Seven Republicans joined Senate Democrats and Independents in voting to restrict the President’s war powers related to Iran. Senator Bill Cassidy was one of those seven and says it’s not about rebuking the President, it’s about exerting the authority of Congress, and keeping the Executive Branch from doing something like the Obama Administration did in Libya, where it openly bombed the country’s government.

President Trump has vowed to veto the measure, and Louisiana’s other Senator, John Kennedy, voted against it.

Oil City Republican Danny McCormick files legislation in the House to do away with the need for concealed carry permits. McCormick says the requirement infringes on  2nd amendment rights.

Shreveport Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman last night in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. A 9-1-1 caller reported hearing an argument before shots were fired. The wording calls for the termination of the President’s ability to use the military against Iran unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or use of force.

Legislation has been filed for the upcoming session that would eliminate the need to have a concealed carry license in order to carry a concealed handgun in Louisiana.  Oil City Representative Danny McCormick says open carry is already legal in Louisiana, and requiring people to get a permit to cover up that gun is just a tax.

A 2019 report on from True Colors United and the National Law Center for Homelessness ranks Louisiana in the top ten among the fifty states and District of Columbia in its efforts to address youth homelessness.  Report co-author Dylan Waguespack says there is room for improvement, indicating limiting opportunities for contact between youth experiencing homelessness and the juvenile and criminal justice systems should be prioritized.
