The Sunshine Bridge is still on course for its January reopening after the bridge was closed due to a barge carrying a crane colliding with the structure last month. DOTD spokesperson Rodney Mallett says a jacking system has arrived that will allow the installation of a replacement chord that was a main load bearing component of the bridge.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine receives the largest commitment in school history, and the eight largest gift in LSU Foundation history. That’s after a 10.1 million dollar endowment from the Soong family, who SVM Senior Director of Development Tracy Evans says developed a close bond with the school after it cared for their two Chihuahuas.

A tornado watch is in effect for the north portion of the state until 11PM. A line of rough thunderstorms is impacting north and central Louisiana primarily that started this afternoon and continues into the night. National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist Aaron Davis says heavy winds will run through the night, but at least it won’t be as bad as last Wednesday.

Dangerous winds, and not heavy rains, have been cited as the primary threat from this system.

A 31-year-old Iowa man is dead after being struck by the vehicle of an on-duty Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy on LA Hwy 3020.  LSP Spokesperson Trooper Thomas Gossen says the incident is still under investigation and says the pedestrian later died at a medical facility.  The deputy was not injured.

Orgeron says a 10-win season would be a great accomplishment. He says they also can’t overlook Arkansas this Saturday, even though the Razorbacks have just two wins on the year.

Sunday’s 45-35 win over the Los Angeles Rams has New Orleans in position to be the number one seed in the N-F-C playoffs. There are question marks about the Black and Gold’s defense, but you have to give them credit in holding Todd Gurley to just 68 yards rushing.

With three games left, ULM is in first place in the Sun Belt West Division and the Warhawks are on a three-game winning streak after upsetting Georgia Southern 44-25. Caleb Evans led the offense with two rushing touchdowns and two passing scores, while the defense held the Eagles to 216 total yards. Coach Matt Viator says taking a 13-0 lead was the key

Many will be heading to the polls tomorrow as it is Election Day.  Louisiana voters can cast their ballots starting as early as 6am.  Among the issues on the ballot, the special election for the Secretary of State’s seat, six constitutional amendments, whether or not fantasy sports betting should be legalized in each parish, and congressional races, and a slew of local issues.  The polls close at 8PM.

A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a fatal crash this morning while apparently responding to a burglary in progress. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says 31-year-old Jessie Blanchard of Iowa was hit by deputy’s vehicle on LA Highway 3020 and died from his injuries…

It was an exciting weekend of football in Louisiana as LSU and the Saints combined to score 45 points, but unfortunately for the Tigers all 45 came Sunday in the Dome as the Saints put on a show against the previously undefeated LA Rams. The night before the Bayou State was treated to only 196 yards of total offense from LSU who lost 29-0. Tiger’s coach Ed Orgeron says that Bama D was downright nasty.

Alabama has now won eight straight games in this series, but LSU will hope their 8th ranked recruiting class this year will bring the firepower next year to take down the Tide in Tuscaloosa.

State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving an on-duty Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s deputy. Troopers say 23-year-old Craig Guillory of Lake Charles was traveling east on LA Highway 3020 and hit a pedestrian, who was wearing dark colored clothing. 31-year-old Jessie Blanchard of Iowa suffered serious injuries and died as a result of the crash.

Tomorrow, voters head to the polls to cast their ballots, but there hasn’t been much publicity for the election of a new Secretary of State. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says early voting totals were strong for a mid-term election and hopefully voters did their homework on the nine candidates in that statewide race…

The Dome was rockin yesterday as the Saints jumped to the number one seed in the NFC with a 45-35 victory over the previously unbeaten LA Rams. The win means the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC currently runs through NOLA, QB Drew Brees.

It was another big game for Brees, who threw for 346 yards and four touchdowns as he continued to build his M-V-P resume.

Elsewhere…Carolina won again to stay within one game of the Saints in the NFC South as the Panthers defeated Bucs 42-28. The Falcons are 4-4 now after beating Washington 38-14. Matt Ryan threw four TD passes.

The Pelicans end a five-game road trip tonight in Oklahoma City. New Orleans will try to snap a five-game losing streak. The Pels have struggled on the defensive end. Tip-off is at 7 PM.

Tomorrow you’ll have a chance to weigh in on whether or not the state should require unanimous jury verdicts in felony cases, amendment two on the ballot. The option passed the House 84 to 15 and has received widespread bi-partisan support behind a message that former District Attorney Ed Tarpley says is clear.

Supporters like Tarpley say the law is racist in nature and has a disproportionate effect on minority defendants who lose the ability to have a jury of their peers, but Livingston, Tanigpahoa and Helena DA Scott Perrilloux says that’s not true, and that a 1972 court case settled the issue.

Apodaca vs. Oregon went 4-1-4 and required federal courts to use unanimous juries, but not state courts.
