The Department of Health is improving on the number of deceased people being sent Medicaid payments, but it’s still happening. Michelle Southern reports:

Three people, including the President of the East Baton Rouge Parish NAACP have sued Baton Rouge Mayor Pro Tem Scott Wilson and the city.   They claim they were allegedly removed during a public comment portion of a council meeting after wanting to discuss the Alton Sterling case.   Their attorney says since it was during the public comment part of the meeting, they had a right to speak, even though it wasn’t on the agenda.

A special training class will be held tonight in Bossier Parish to help residents become better prepared in terrifying situations that might occur in public. The class will focus on things like understanding situational awareness, how to keep your family safe, developing exit and evacuation plans, and knowing when to run, hide or fight. Director of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s training AcademyBruce Teutsch (touch) says they are also focusing on weather related events…

Southern Mississippi and Florida State will play in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport.  This will be the Seminoles first appearance while the Golden Eagles are making their third trip to Northwest Louisiana.  Bowl spokesman Stephan Nolet recalls an NFL legend played for Southern Miss the last time they played in Shreveport…

The horrific shootings in Las Vegas and at a small Texas church are reminders of the kind of world we live in.  Teutsch says people need to know if a situation develops and emergency crews are slow to respond…

The Saints beat the Carolina Panthers yesterday 31 to 21, leaving the Black and Gold with a 9 and three record. Fans in the Crescent City were fired up after watching the game and had lots to say about rookie running back Alvin Kamara.

This win means the Saints have regained control of the NFC South. The Black and Gold will take on the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night and one fan is optimistic the Saints will take home a “W.”

Some fans said they were worried about this game, thinking the Panthers would find a way to beat the Saints seeing as we won earlier on their turf. Another woman was extremely pleased with the performances of her favorite players.

I-Bowl spokesman Stefan Nolet says they hope this game marks the beginning of better times for Florida State and their fans…:

This will be the Seminoles first appearance while the Golden Eagles are making their third trip to Northwest Louisiana.  Nolet recalls an NFL legend played for Southern Miss the last time they played in Shreveport…

The game will kick off on Wednesday December 27th.  Nolet says since they have the game scheduled a couple of days after Christmas, it affords bowl organizers to have plenty activities for the fans to participate in prior to kickoff…

The Department of Health has gotten better about erroneously making Medicaid payments to deceased recipients over the last four years, but still has work to do. A new report from the state’s Legislative Auditor found LDH made nearly $718,000 in improper payments between July 2013 and August 2017. Performance Audit Manager Chris Magee says LDH has improved since 2013:

Magee says the last report showed LDH had paid about $1.85 million for deceased individuals between February 2012 and June 2013. He says what they’ve found is a coding error in which an individual dies, but that death is not properly linked to the department’s Medicaid eligibility file…:

Most of the improper spending involved payments made to managed-care companies that oversee services for most of Louisiana’s Medicaid patients. Magee says auditors concluded that LDH needs to further enhance it’s identification process…:

Rookie Alvin Kamara had another big game, 66 yards receiving on five catches and he also carried the ball nine times for 60 yards and had two rushing touchdowns.

ESPN is reporting New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis won’t play tonight against the Golden State Warriors because of a left pelvis injury. Davis also missed Saturday’s game when the Pels beat the Trail Blazers 123-116. DeMarcus Cousins led the team with a game-high 38 points.

LSU is headed to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando for the second straight year. On New Years Day The Tigers will take on Notre Dame who is led by running back Josh Adams with over 13-hundred yards and seven yards a carry. LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron says he’ll get to know Adams over the next month…:

A new addiction treatment center is opening on the Northshore.  The ten-million-dollar Longbranch Recovery Center will open around the first of the year in Abita Springs.  Longbranch Healthcare CEO Chris McMahon the location of the facility was as important as treating the patient.  The former Longbranch Hotel in Abita Springs is a now a 32-bed facility that will be able to house patients…

There are reports Smoothie King is looking at moving its corporate headquarters from Metairie to Texas.  A five-year deal between Louisiana and the fruit drink maker expires at the end of the year, providing thousands of dollars in incentives. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson says they will work with Smoothie King to explore all options for them to remain in the state…
