Facebook plans to launch a new app for kids so they can message their friends with the approval of their parents. It’s called Messenger Kids and is aimed at children under 13 who aren’t legally allowed to have real Facebook. LSU Mass Communications Professor Lance Porter says many kids lie and use social media platforms before they’re old enough.

Messenger Kids is controlled by parents and will not let kids add their friends or delete messages without permission. Porter says this is another way to combat the new trend of dark social.

Health officials are concerned that Louisiana might have a severe flu season. There are more cases of flu here and in Alabama than elsewhere in the country. Louisiana Department of Health Doctor Frank Welch says there are more medical visits for the flu than there should be this early in the season…

Some officials warn this year’s flu vaccine may only be ten percent effective against the “A” strain of the virus. Welch is concerned that this influenza will cause several problems the current vaccine does not immunize against…

John Schroder will be sworn in tonight as Louisiana’s next state treasurer after being chosen by a record low number of voters in the November 18th runoff. John Kennedy stepped down from the position to become a U.S. Senator. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat expects Schroder will try to play the same role as Kennedy.

Pinsonat says Schroder will now to try to fill Kennedy’s role and must make sure he’s on top of his game.
Schroder is a former state representative. Pinsonat says many politicians use the office as a stepping stone to better things. He says the politician has the ability to make the position as powerful as they want.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore released the findings in the 2016 officer-involved shooting death of 48-year-old Terrell Walker. Cops believe Walker shot and killed his girlfriend on Essen Lane, then fled. Walker was later shot and killed by deputies after an extensive manhunt. Moore played several 911 calls from the incident on Essen Lane…:

Moore says when Walker left the scene the first time, he soon returned and fired into a crowd of people and paramedics who were treating the mortally-wounded girlfriend, April Peck. Moore said Walker’s blood-alcohol level was .028, and he had traces of methamphetamine, hydrocodone, PCP and marijuana in his system at the time of his death. Moore says there was no probable cause to present the case to a Grand Jury in the matter of the death of Walker…:

State Police and the FBI seek the public’s help in the apprehension of suspects involved in two bank robberies in north Louisiana. The Guaranty Bank in Epps was robbed November 10th. Seventeen days later the Barksdale Federal Credit Union in Cotton Valley was held up. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says the suspected man and woman hid their identities, but believe both robberies are connected…

Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. Reichardt says if you see something suspicious, report it to police or the FBI…
