Right now, the system is described as Tropical Depression 16 and it’s located near Central America, but will head north over the next couple of days.

An allergy expert at LSU Health New Orleans says fall allergies are expected to be worse, because of the hot and humid weather we’ve seen the last few weeks. Doctor Sanjay Kamboj says allergy suffers should clean their nose twice a day with saline nasal spray, then follow with nasal steroids…

We’re anticipating more information soon on the infant that was found dead in a dumpster in Tensas Parish. State Police Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says their detectives have been looking into the case since they got the call Monday morning…

The investigation continues into the death of LSU fratnerity pledge Maxwell Gruver. Police records say it’s possible the 18-year-old from Georgia was forced to drink an excessive amount of alcohol. Legal analyst Tim Meche says there are no laws on the book regarding forcing another person to consume alcohol and it leading to a person’s death and it would be tough legislation to pass, because of the strength of the beer lobby in Louisiana…

Police records indicate the LSU fraternity pledge who died last month may have consumed an excessive amount of alcohol as a result of a drinking game. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Louisiana has a law that holds someone responsible for causing an overdose by injecting illegal drugs, but not one for alcohol. He says this means the fraternity members involved may not face felony charges:

Officials believe 18-year-old Maxwell Gruver’s death is a possible hazing incident. Preliminary autopsy reports showed Gruver likely died from alcohol poisoning, but toxicology tests won’t be complete for a couple of weeks.

Southeastern Louisiana announces they’ve got new scholarships available designed to attract high performing students. Those with an ACT score of 30 or greater could receive 7-thousand dollars. Senior Director of University Marketing Mike Rivault says this along with the Southeastern Promise gives students a great value for a great education:

Forecasters are watching a disturbance over the extreme southwestern part of the Caribbean Sea that is now Tropical Depression No. 16, according to the National Hurricane Center. They say the system should move into the Gulf of Mexico by Saturday, but there is a lot of uncertainty at this point, but it’s definitely worth watching.

Louisiana is set to receive 55-million dollars in federal grant money to improve the reading and writing skills of struggling students. State department of education spokesperson Sydni Dunn says this will accelerate the learning of all students reading below grade level…:

She says the state will receive 18.5 million dollars each year for the next three years, and funds distributed based on the strength of a school system’s proposed literacy plans.

Senior Director of University Marketing Mike Rivault says SLU has always been ranked highly in terms of graduating students with low debt. He says they created this scholarship to applaud students who performed well in high school and will continue that in college…:
