He joined the football team as a walk-on in 2016 after spending six years in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. Von Rosenberg was a standout pitcher at Zachary High, but never made it to the majors. Now he’s trying to help LSU football win and be a good teammate…:

Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says he is skipping New Orleans Saints games and all other NFL events for the foreseeable future, according to multiple media outlets. Nungesser is in Europe on tourism business and had planned to attend the Saints game at Wembley Arena in London against the Miami Dolphins, but said not standing for the anthem is un-American and offensive to the military.

Five teenagers are accused of damaging over 50 Christmas trees at the Shady Pond Farm in St. Tammany Parish. Owner Clarke Gernon says 10 trees were destroyed during Labor Day weekend and the perpetrators came back last weekend, but this time the state forestry department set up motion-detection cameras:

Baton Rouge Police have arrested a 17-year-old accused in the death of an 8 month old baby. They believe the infant, Katelynn Carter, was in the care of her mother’s boyfriend, Vincent Cummings — when the baby became unresponsive and later died at a local hospital. Cummings later admitted he physically abused the 8 month old, and he is charged with second degree murder.

5th District Congressman Ralph Abraham will hold a listening session on Friday morning at Rayville High School to receive input from farmers and ag leaders on what they want included in the 2018 Farm Bill. Abraham wants to know what is working and what could be improved.

The Farm Bill is the primary legislation that sets the agriculture and food policy for the country. Abraham says cotton was left out of the mix in this current Farm Bill and that industry has suffered major hits because of it.

State Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain and the Louisiana Farm Bureau President Ronnie Anderson will attend the listening session. Abraham says it’s likely that cotton will be represented again under this new legislation. He says he’s optimistic significant changes will be made under the guidance of new Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

It’s been a month since Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas, and gas prices are slowly starting to go down after about 28% of refining capacity was knocked out because of the storm. Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst at GasBuddy, says with the switch-over to winter-blend gasoline, demand beginning to slow and Gulf Coast refineries coming back, consumers can expect to see much lower prices at the pump next month…:

There will be no vote in the U.S. Senate on Bill Cassidy’s bill to scrap the Affordable Healthcare Act.  Cassidy says the bill did not have the support to pass, so the vote has been postponed.  But Cassidy says too many families pay too much for coverage through Obama-care.

Authorities found a body underneath a truck early this morning.  Now, Stephen Herbert is charged with DWI and negligent homicide in the death of his brother Kirk Hebert.  EBR Sheriff spokesperson Casey Hicks says Stephen Hebert admitted that he and his brother had been drinking.   She says that beyond that, the suspect did not remember much.

Lafayette Police say an Oklahoma man broke into a woman’s home, sexually assaulted her and forced her to withdraw money from an ATM. Corporal Karl Ratcliff says 22-year-old Devon Bell had only been in the area for a few days…

A Bienville Parish jury decided an Arcadia council member was guilty of stealing public money. Louisiana Inspector General Stephen Street said that found Patricia Hampton took payments for water bills when she was the town’s clerk for personal use. Street says it is important to hold these individuals accountable

LSU’s young wide receivers showed another sign of maturing last week in the win over Syracuse. Drake Davis and Stephen Sullivan each caught touchdown passes. Quarterback Danny Etling says these two will continue to get better as the season goes along…

Meanwhile, the Saints are in London getting ready for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. 2008 was the last time the Black and Gold played overseas and they beat San Diego. They’ll take on a Miami team that is coming off a bad performance and a loss to the New York Jets. Dolphins Head Coach Adam Gase called his team’s performance on offense garbage.

Training camp started today for the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pels are trying to get back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The team is hoping a full year with Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins will lead to them having one of the eight best records in the West.

An early Tuesday morning call to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff led them to discover a body underneath a vehicle. EBR Sheriff’s spokesperson Casey Hicks says deputies arrived on the scene to find 30 year old Stephen Hebert half asleep at the steering wheel of a truck that was still running.

Patrick DeHann a senior analyst at ‘Gas Buddy’ predicts an easing of gas prices going forward. Refining capacity had dropped by 30 percent due to flooded refineries in Texas caused by Hurricane Harvey. Then, Hurricane Irma caused mass evacuation in Florida which DeHann says further crippled the supply in the US.

DeHann also says refineries making their season switch to the winter-blend of gasoline as another factor in gas prices.

In recent days, Republican Senators John McCain, Rand Paul and Susan Collins all announced their opposition to the Obamacare repeal.

An Oklahoma man has been arrested in Lafayette for allegedly breaking into a woman’s home and sexually assaulting her then demanding she drive him to an ATM. Cpl. Karl Ratcliff with the Lafayette Police Department says they were able to catch 22-year-old Devon Bell after a dispatcher remembered a recent call about a suspicious person in the neighborhood.

Bell is charged with home invasion, sexual battery, aggravated kidnapping, and criminal trespassing. Ratcliff says this case is also now considered a kidnapping. He says detectives were able to receive surveillance video showing that Bell was in fact the suspect they were looking for.

Ratcliff says this was a very scary experience for the victim and she called authorities to report the incident after she was away from Bell and felt safe. He says Bell has only been in the area for a few days and police are not looking for other suspects.

Louisiana Inspector General Stephen Street says Patricia Hampton was found guilty of theft charges from an investigation sparked by an audit that found discrepancies in the water department’s records.
