The federal investigation did not bring forth any charges against officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake. State charges could be filed, but Baton Rouge Representative Ted James says that could be another six months at least…:

A 2-year-old child has died at a hospital after being found unresponsive in a pool over the weekend in Ponchatoula. The family of Nash Bennett has started a YouCaring fundraiser for the parents to help with medical and funeral expenses. The child is the fourth to die by drowning in the parish recently, as a nine-year-old girl drowned in a swift current on the Tangipahoa River and there were drownings in Bedico and Loranger also.

Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins is receiving backlash over a video he made during a tour of the Auschwitz Memorial. In it, Higgins said while in a former gas chamber that this is why the US military must be invincible, and homeland security ramped up. But Auschwitz Memorial tweeted that a former gas chamber should be a place for mournful silence, not a stage. Higgins’ office has yet to comment.

Men’s Wearhouse has launched its 10th annual National Suit Drive, a month-long initiative that collects gently-used professional clothing for Americans transitioning back into the workforce. Founder and president emeritus of Refined By Fire Ministries Elain Ellerbe says the Michael Ellerbe Legacy Suit Drive is the chance for the public to contribute to a person’s reintegration into society…:

Three brothers have been arrested in Monroe after one of the men allegedly shot at an Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Deputy during a traffic stop. Deputy Glenn Springfield says during the stop, Audley, Ladarrian and Rakin Alexander all exited the vehicle..:

LSU left fielder Antoine Duplantis has been chosen as the next Tiger to wear the number eight jersey. In a tradition started Mikie Mahtook, the player who wears number eight on the LSU baseball team is the upperclassmen who exemplifies leadership and dedication to the program. Meanwhile Maineri says pitcher Eric Walker will meet with a physician with the Texas Rangers tomorrow. He said Walker had an MRI done on his injured arm and the Rangers doctor will be able to provide an assessment.

WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge is reporting that sources close to the matter said police declined to pursue sexual assault charges against an LSU football player because the woman who made the claim was not credible.

The 10th Annual National Suit Drive is now underway to help releasing offenders look for a job and be dressed for the part. Founder and president emeritus of Refined By Fire Ministries Elain Ellerbe says they have partnered with Men’s Warehouse and the Department of Corrections to collect gently used professional wear and distribute them to former inmates. She says this gives individuals released from prison the confidence and assurance to be successful.

The annual effort is known as the Michael Ellerbe Legacy Suit Drive as Elain’s husband was the former pre-release director at Dixon Correctional Institute. Ellerbe says this is the chance for the public to contribute to a person’s reintegration into society.

Over 16,500 individuals are released from prison into Louisiana communities each year. Ellerbe says they collect both men and women’s professional wear from suits and sports coats to ties and other accessories. She says wearing a nice business outfit to a job interview makes a big first impression.

This Independence Day will continue to be a hot one as there is no cloud coverage and a minimal chance of rain. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we can expect more hot summers days through the week.

Tonight will be filled with fireworks celebrating the 4th of July but the State Fire Marshal’s office is reminding Louisianans to stay safe when lighting pyrotechnics. Deputy Chief Brandt Thompson advises those who put on a private show to be sober, wear safety goggles, and have a hose or bucket of water nearby.

The Louisiana SPCA is also encouraging pet owners to keep their animals calm during firework shows. Ana Zorrilla with the SPCA says today is one of the busiest says in terms of animals getting lost from their homes. She says it’s important pets have a proper ID tag

It’s very important to keep safety in mind this 4th of July when it comes to fireworks. Brant Thompson with the State Fire Marshal’s Office says it’s estimated fireworks cause over 18-thousand fires each year in the US, which includes approximately 2-thousand structures and vehicles, resulting in millions of dollars with of damages.

He encourages revelers to take advantage of many organized celebrations throughout the state where fireworks are conducted by professionals.

Watching out for pets this Independence Day is also very significant. Ana Zorrilla with the Louisiana SPCA says dogs are less anxious when tired so she advises pet owners to play fetch before the fireworks begin. She says you can also distract your pet with toys during fireworks.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is keeping Louisiana voter’s information private even after a request to release the info from the Trump Administration. Schedler received a similar request from the Department of Justice under the Obama Administration. He says he didn’t give out the information then and he won’t do it now.

A suspect who shot at a sheriff’s deputy in Ouachaita Parish has been taken into custody. The shooting happened at about 4:30 this morning in south Monroe during a traffic stop. A spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was not hit when two shots were fired. The identity of the suspect has not been released.

 

It’s a hot and sticky Independence Day. State Climatologist Barry Keim advises people to stay cool and drink lots of water. He says there is minimal cloud coverage and no change of rain so outdoor activities won’t be interrupted.

Many Americans cannot imagine the Fourth of July without fireworks, but state officials say it’s very important to keep safety measures in mind when setting off the colorful and loud pyrotechnics. Secretary of State Tom Schedler will not provide a Presidential Commission looking into voter fraud with information that would include a voter’s social security number, mother’s maiden name and date of birth. Schedler says he received a similar request from the Department of Justice during the Obama administration…

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is advising the public to cool and drink plenty of water.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office says one of their deputies was shot at around 4:30 this morning in South Monroe. The deputy was not hit and is okay, but the suspect is still on the loose. KNOE-TV reports it occurred during a traffic stop on 165 South on Ruffin Drive and two shots were fired at the deputy. We’ll have more on this story as it develops.

The Louisiana SPCA is reminding dog owners that pets and Fourth of July celebrations do not mix. Louisiana SPCA CEO Ana Zorrilla says every year animal shelters become populated with dogs that ran from their homes due to anxiety and fear from the loud noises created by fireworks. Zorrilla says pets should be kept inside during fireworks displays to keep them safe, even if they are usually outside…
