Today is the last day of the 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season which was the first one considered “above-normal” for the first time since 2012. This year, there were 15 named storms, including 7 hurricanes – 3 of which were major. NOAA’s lead hurricane forecaster, Gerry Bell, says there were several factors which lead to the active season…:

A man who was caught on video looting a flooded Baton Rouge Hi-Neighbor grocery story in August, robbing it of beer and cigarettes, has been arrested. Police say 20-year-old Clarence Duncan was recognized from the surveillance and, when questioned, admitted to the crime stating he needed food. He was booked on charges of looting into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Using metal detectors to keep Bourbon Street safer is not a practical solution. That’s according to Edward Robinson of L and R security services. He says aside from difficult logistics, it would be a costly venture when you look at how much manpower would be needed…:

The man accused of killing a Shreveport Police Officer last year was ruled competent to stand trial during a Tuesday sanity hearing. A doctor told the court that Grover Cannon was even upset the defense suggested he had a mental issue. Officer Thomas LaValley was killed in August 2015 when responding to a suspicious person call. Cannon faces four charges including, 1st Degree Murder.

The Baton Rouge Police Police Union is livid over the Metro Council’s decision to settle with Alton Sterling protesters who sued over the treatment they received from cops. State Police say a 17-year-old is dead after failing to yield for a train in Sabine Parish and colliding with it. They say Kevin Brown’s vehicle exited the left side of the road after impact and overturned.

Gonzales Police are looking for a man they say allegedly walked into a gas station, exposed himself and began performing a sex act in front of customers. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact authorities.

Police say a man in St. Tammany Parish who allegedly went on a date with a woman he met online before tying her up and trying to kidnap her is reportedly in custody. They indicate after the victim called for help, authorities began a pursuit that went across the Causeway and ended with 41-year-old Christopher Garcy crashing in Avondale and getting into a standoff with cops before he was apprehended.

Parishes in southeast Louisiana are under a tornado watch this morning as a strong band of storms move through the area. The greatest threats with this system, according to forecasters, include damaging winds and isolated twisters.
