Improving race relations was the topic of a roundtable discussion this morning in Baton Rouge. Governor John Bel Edwards called the meeting of state and community leaders and says they want to meet with kids in schools to educate youth about interacting with police.

Edwards says they also want to teach people in driver’s ed how to respond if they get pulled over.

There was widespread shore loss as a result of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to a USGS-NASA study. Research oceanographer Elijah Ramsey says this is an important study and should not be a onetime thing. He says the spill also caused wetland fragmentation.

The study found that the treatment some areas received after the spill was not helpful.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning announces the statewide burn ban will be lifted at 4pm today. Browning thanks residents for their attention to the ban. He says many fires were prevented and thus lives and property saved. The public is still encouraged to use caution when outdoor burning. Browning adds burning will still be subject to state and local laws and regulations.

State leaders met in Baton Rouge for a roundtable discussion on race relations. State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says resolving problems in the communities is about having an open dialogue. He says we need ongoing conversations about ways to improve relations, and that starts with listening.

Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher is reportedly the top candidate to become the next head coach of the Bayou Bengals, according to the Baton Rouge Advocate. Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham isn’t surprised Fisher is at the top of Athletic Director Joe Alleva’s wish list, since he won a national championship at Florida State in 2014.

Fisher has said he’s happy at FSU, but Worsham believes he would take the job at LSU if offered.

A USGS-NASA study found widespread shoreline loss across areas affected with oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010. Research Oceanographer Elijah Ramsey says they compared the damage before and after the spill in the Barataria Bay area. He says in 2009 and 2010 there wasn’t a lot of coastline erosion.

Ramsey says that continued throughout the next year.

It looks like most people will be doing their Christmas shopping online this year, according to a report by the consulting firm Deloitte. Executive Director of the Louisiana Retailers Association, Dawn Johnson, says a lot of shoppers go into the store, get information from employees, then order online.

It’s Bayou Classic week and a large crowd is expected for the annual football game between Grambling and Southern, which is played at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Over 40-thousand tickets have been sold, which is 13-thousand more than last year at this time.

The average price for a Thanksgiving dinner will be $49.79, which is slightly less than the national average. That’s according to the Louisiana Farm Bureau.

State Police is trying to determine the identity of a driver who lost their life in a fiery crash on US 90 in Acadia Parish. The single vehicle wreck occurred in Rayne at around 2:30 this morning. L-S-P says a Mitsubishi Lancer crossed the centerline, ran of the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle caught on fire after impact.
