A new report from LSU’s Institute for Public Health and Justice suggests that Louisiana should increase the age for adult imprisonment. The study recommends that 17-year-olds should be treated as juveniles instead of adults after they are arrested. Lead author, Professor Stephen Phillippi (Philip-ee), says this study did not look at heinous and very violent crimes committed by 17-year-olds…

The report suggests raising the age for adult imprisonment in routine situations. The study was compiled at the request of the state legislature. Phillipi says several states have recently put 17-year-olds back in their juvenile system with good results…

Durst was arrested at a hotel on Canal Street in March 2015 when, during a search by the FBI fearing he was about to leave the country, a .38 caliber revolver was found which is illegal for a convicted felon to possess. Legal analyst Chick Foret says, under a plea bargain, Durst will be sentenced to 85 months in federal prison…:

The judge said he would decide whether or not to accept the plea after receiving a pre-sentencing report. Foret says a seven year, one month sentence for the 72-year-old is a substantial one. He says Wednesday in court, Durst didn’t look so good…:

Foret says Durst had to make a deal today because his only defense was whether or not the search of the room was valid, but a judge ruled the evidence was admissible. The millionaire’s first wife vanished in 1982 and authorities believe he killed Susan Berman to keep her quiet about what she knew. Foret believes Durst is now looking for closure…:

A new study by LSU finds 17-year-olds in Louisiana should be tried as juveniles, not adults, after they are arrested. Professor Stephen Phillippi (Philip-ee), with LSU’s Institute for Public Health and Justice, says several states have recently put 17-year-olds back in their juvenile system with good results…:

Clinton Police have reportedly arrested a middle school teacher after a parent complained she found explicit messages on their child’s phones. Louis Smith Jr, an 8th grade teacher at East Feliciana Middle, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, computer aided solicitation of a minor and prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student. Detectives say they’re currently investigating to see if other students are involved.

The FX series “The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” premiered last night and is getting rave reviews, and next season could be about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Hollywood Reporter says creator Ryan Murphy wants to follow six to eight people to examine all sides of what happened after the storm. Finishing with the nation’s number one recruiting class might not happen for the Tigers. Erick Fowler a linebacker from Texas decommitted from LSU today and signed with the Texas Longhorns. He’s considered one of the top outside linebackers in the country. But LSU should have a top 5 recruiting class, thanks to signings from some very good defensive and offensive linemen like John Curtis offensive tackle Willie Allen. Patriots head coach JT Curtis says Allen has the intangibles to be an outstanding offensive lineman in the SEC…

In basketball…the LSU Tigers have moved into sole possession of second place in the SEC after beating Auburn 80-68 last night. Ben Simmons had 21 points and 13 rebounds. Shawn Long scored a season high 28 points and had 17 rebounds as UL Lafayette beat ULM 72-65 in overtime. Justin Roberson had 21 for the Warhawks.

And Zeek Woodley poured in 30 points as Northwestern State defeated Central Arkansas 91-75.

The son of former US Senator Mary Landrieu was arrested and charged with cruelty to a juvenile after cops say his 2-year-old was brought to a Baton Rouge hospital with several injuries. According to a report by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, the child’s mother took the 2-year-old to the hospital, where the medical staff notified law enforcement of the possible child abuse case. 23-year-old Frank Conner Snelling was booked and released on $10,000 bond.

Two juveniles and their mother have been arrested in connection with the death of 14-year-old Treyvon Goudueu of Melville. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office says an autopsy determined Goudeau died of a gunshot wound to the head, and his body was found in woods Friday evening. A 12 year old is charged with Negligent Homicide. His 15-year-old brother is charged with Obstruction of Justice. Their mother is booked with Obstruction of Justice and 2 counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.

The Tabasco plant on Avery Island cut the ribbon this week on a brand new Visitors Center. Tabasco is produced by the McIlhenny (Mackle-Henny) Company of Louisiana, and President and CEO Tony Simmons says the new tour features an interactive experience including a greenroom and a stop in the barrel mash warehouse where they store about 60,000 woodel barrells of pepper mash. He says they get in excess of about 100,000 people a year visiting Avery Island, and those of us who haven’t been since we were kids are in for a real treat with the new facilities…:

Minden Police has arrested a woman after she allegedly dragged a police officer with her car. They say officers responded to a call that 54-year-old Vicky Brackens was attempting to steal two televisions. When an officer tried to un-buckle Brackens’ seat belt, she took off dragging the officer over 50 feet. The officer did suffer several injuries but is okay. Brackens is charged with attempted first degree murder.

State Police has arrested a former police officer after they found he was paid for working for two police departments at the same time. Their investigation discovered, that on several occasions, 47-year-old Joseph Johnson was on-duty simultaneously for both the Bunkie and Cottonport Police Departments. Johnson was subsequently paid by both departments for those hours. Johnson is charged with malfeasance in office and 30 counts of public payroll fraud.

Captain Tony Moran says they’ve arrested 18-year-old Andrew Jacob Wallace and after several days of searching detectives found a critical piece of evidence.
