A new study by LSU finds 17-year-olds in Louisiana should be tried as juveniles, not adults, after they are arrested. Professor Stephen Phillippi (Philip-ee), with LSU’s Institute for Public Health and Justice, says several states have recently put 17-year-olds back in their juvenile system with good results…:

The report discovered that 17-year-olds sent to adult prison are more likely to to commit additional crimes when they are released.

Clinton Police have reportedly arrested a middle school teacher after a parent complained she found explicit messages on their child’s phones. Louis Smith Jr, an 8th grade teacher at East Feliciana Middle, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, computer aided solicitation of a minor and prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student. Detectives say they’re currently investigating to see if other students are involved.

The FX series “The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” premiered last night and is getting rave reviews, and next season could be about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Hollywood Reporter says creator Ryan Murphy wants to follow six to eight people to examine all sides of what happened after the storm. Murphy told the entertainment outlet that Katrina was a crime against people and that’s what his show is all about.
