Governor Bobby Jindal’s office says Louisiana is ranked as having the 4th best business climate in the nation by Site Selection, which is 2 spots down from the prior year. They say it is the sixth consecutive Top 10 ranking for Louisiana in the annual Site Selection report and reinforces the state’s reputation as a top location for business investment and job creation.

The Saints won a 52-49 shootout over the New York Giants yesterday on kicker Kai Forbath’s 50-yard field goal as time expired. Saints quarterback Drew Brees tied an NFL record for touchdown passes in a single game with seven and Giants QB Eli Manning threw for six TDs. Their combined 13 touchdown passes in a single game set a new NFL record. Saints head coach Sean Payton was impressed with Forbath’s game-winning kick that improved the Black & Gold to 4-4 on the season…

The Kansas City Royals are World Series champions after defeating the New York Mets last night 7-2 in 12 innings. The Royals scored two in the ninth to send the game to extra innings and poured on five runs in the twelfth for the victory. This is Kansas City’s first world championship since 1985.

In the Southland Conference, McNeese State remains undefeated on the season after slipping past Abilene Christian 15-13. It was a rough game for the Cowboys as they turned the ball over to the Wildcats a total of five times but kicker Trent Manuel connected on all three of his field goal attempts to keep McNeese atop the Conference standings. The Pokes will host Sam Houston State Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Southland: Southeastern Louisiana was defeated by Central Arkansas 21-16 and Northwestern State defeated Nicholls 37-21.

In the Sun Belt, UL-Lafayette scored 21 second half points to rally to defeat ULM 30-24. The Warhawks led by 15 at the half but the second half was all Ragin Cajuns. Quarterback Brooks Haack led the Cajuns by passing for one touchdown and rushing for another. ULM QB Garrett Smith threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. The Warhawks are now 1-7 on the season and will travel to Troy Saturday. UL-Lafayette improves to 3-4 and will next face Georgia Southern in Statesboro.

The Lafayette Police Department says a bicyclist was killed after he was run over by a Toyota Tundra. Investigators say 53-year-old Thomas Landry of Lafayette was riding his bike on the side of the road last night when the driver of the truck says Landry fell directly into his path in the roadway and he was unable to avoid hitting him. Landry died at a local hospital.

Monroe Police has arrested a couple on murder charges following the death of a 4-year-old boy. Authorities say the child died at the home of his mother, 25-year-old Arnissia Ross, and stepfather, 25-year-old Billy Moore. They say doctors found evidence of a history of abuse on the young boy’s body. Ross and Moore were booked on charges of second degree murder. The police investigation is ongoing.
