The Jeff Davis Sheriff’s Office reports that a Jennings man is under arrest accused of raping a young girl several times over a three year period. Authorities say their investigation discovered that 42-year-old Rusty Aucoin had sexual contact with the juvenile while they lived together over the past three years, beginning when the girl was 8-years-old. Aucoin and the victim are not related. Aucoin is charged with seven counts of aggravated rape.

The two previously agreed to face off November 16th in a televised forum sponsored by Nexstar Television stations.

A poll on the governor’s race finds Democrat John Bel Edwards leads Republican David Vitter by 20 points in the runoff. The Nextstar TV stations/JMC Analytics survey shows Edwards receiving 25-percent of the Republican vote. Pollster John Couvillion says that’s not good news for Vitter…:

The poll shows Edwards receiving 52-percent of the vote compared to Vitter’s 32-percent.

Vitter picked up the endorsement of the Louisiana House Republican Delegation today. House Delegation Chairman and State Representative Lance Harris says Louisiana needs a Governor with a provent track record as a conservative reformer.

In the Lt. Governor’s race, state senator Elbert Guillory, who finished fourth in the primary in the Lt. Governor’s race, announced his endorsement for Republican Billy Nungesser over Democrat Kip Holden.

Tulane has been awarded a $6.7 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the long term impact of Hurricane Katrina. Mark VanLandingham, is a professor at Tulane, he says they are excited about receiving this funding…:

Meanwhile it’s reported that Republican Scott Angelle, who finished third in the primary, is looking at running for the US Senate seat. His best friend, State Senator Fred Mills, told Gannett that a lot of people have been asking Angelle to consider a spot in Congress.

A new Public Policy Poll of GOP voters in Iowa shows Governor Bobby Jindal now has 6% support there, which is up from 4%.

The National Institutes of Health has given Tulane $6.7 million dollars in grant money to study the long term impact of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans and the surrounding regions. Mark VanLandingham, professor of global community health and behavioral sciences at Tulane, says a goal of the study is to create a picture of where the city and different groups of survivors stand more than a decade removed from Hurricane Katrina…:

The first college football playoff rankings for 2015 come out at six PM tonight. LSU is expected to be in the top four, but for them to stay in the top four they’ll need to beat Alabama on Saturday. In big games like this, mistakes can cost you. LSU leads the SEC in penalty yards per game and Coach Les Miles hopes his team doesn’t see too many flags this Saturday…

LSU men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones announced today that senior guard Keith Hornsby will miss the start of the 2015-16 basketball season after underoing surgery today for a minor injury. Hornsby is the Tigers top returning scorer.

The Pelicans go after their first win of the season tonight as they host the Orlando Magic at the Smoothie King Center. The Magic are also winless, as they’ve lost their three games by five points or less. Meanwhile, New Orleans has allowed at least 111 points in its three defeats. Tip-off is just after 7 PM.

The Saints did not make any moves prior to the three PM trade deadline. New Orleans will host Tennessee this Sunday. The Titans announced earlier today that they’ve fired Ken Whisenhunt, who went 3-and-20 at the helm in Tennessee. Mike Mularky was named interim head coach.

In other NFL news…former Saint Reggie Bush was placed on injured reserve by the 49ers after tearing his ACL last Sunday. San Francisco has reportedly signed another former Saint, Pierre Thomas, to take Bush’s spot on the roster.

No changes atop the rankings in the high school football polls. Rummel, Neville, University, Notre Dame and St. Mary’s are all ranked number one.

The latest independent poll on Louisiana’s gubernatorial runoff shows Democrat John Bel Edwards with a 20 point lead over Republican David Vitter. The Nextstar TV stations/JMC Analytics survey shows Edwards with 52-percent and Vitter 32-percent of the vote. Pollster John Couvillon isn’t surprised…:

The elderly woman from Slidell who lost her wedding ring while passing out candy to trick or treaters Halloween night has found the cherished item. Slidell Police Sgt. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they’ve recovered the body of a missing boater from the Atchafalaya River. They say 56-year-old William Seal of Butte LaRose had not been seen since he set off for a day of fishing Sunday morning. His body was turned over to the St. Martin Coroner’s Office to determine a cause of death.
