Louisiana Congressmen Ralph Abraham of Alto and Cedric Richmond of New Orleans introduce a bill which tries to prevent death of high school football players. Abraham says the bill will require the CDC to ask for input from parents, coaches, athletic trainers and other health care professionals to discover new methods to prevent future serious injuries or death.

Abraham’s office says since July 1st, 11 high school football players have died around the country due to reasons related to football, including 16-year-old Tyrell Cameron from Franklin Parish High School. He says a young person shouldn’t lose their life by playing football…

Abraham says the bill would not impose any new regulations, it only directs existing federal agencies to study the issue and offer recommendations for solutions. He says the goal is to keep kids safe, while playing a game that is supposed to be fun…

A devastating disease of roses caused by the rose rosette virus has been confirmed for the first time in Louisiana. Rose rosette disease was discovered at a commercial landscape in Bossier City. LSU AgCenter “Plant Doctor” Raj Singh says this disease is very deadly to all different kinds of roses…

He says several different types of symptoms have been reported on infected roses, including “witch’s broom”, excessive thorniness, and abnormal discoloration. Singh says they’re not sure if this disease has spread to other locations in the state…

He says rose enthusiasts should make themselves aware of the symptoms of rose rosette disease. Singh says while there is cause for concern, you should stay calm if you think your roses are infected…

The US House has passed a $325 billion dollar transportation package, and has now formed a conference committee with the Senate so that Congress can compromise on how to fund it. They have until November 20th to complete a report for the President’s desk, when highway funding is set to expire. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves is on the compromise committee…:

The highway bill approved by the House calls for spending $261 billion on highways and $55 billion on transit over six years. The Senate passed similar legislation that guaranteed highway funding for three years. Graves says they are pushing programs for upgrades on nationally significant roadways that should be a priority — such as I-10, I-49 and I-12…:

Graves says the House blocked an amendment that would have raised the 18.4 cent federal gas tax, which funds highways, by 15 cents, because he feels there are other ways to pay for transportation projects…:

During the LSU-Alabama game, Democratic candidate for governor John Bel Edwards unveiled a new TV attack ad accusing Republican opponent David Vitter of answering a prostitute’s call after skipping a vote to honor soldiers killed in the line of duty. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Edwards is on the attack, because internal polls must be showing Vitter is gaining ground…

The polls on the governor’s race that have been made public, show Edwards with a double-digit lead over Vitter. Pinsonat expects the November 21st race to be tight and the Edwards campaign has decided to go on the offensive…

The LSU Tigers are still ranked in the top 10, but their chances of winning the SEC or being involved in the college football playoffs took a serious hit after losing to Alabama 30-16. The Bayou Bengals couldn’t stop Bama running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, while LSU’s Leonard Fournette rushed for 31 yards. Disappointing loss for the  Saints on Sunday as they allowed Tennessee to come into the Mercedes Benz Superdome and leave with its 2nd victory of the season. The Titans topped New Orleans 34-28 in overtime. Saints Coach Sean Payton says they made too many mistakes to win…

The Saints led the game for much of the contest. Tennessee tied it with a touchdown in the 4th quarter. And New Orleans had a chance to win it in the final minute, but Kai Forbath’s field goal was block. Payton says just one of many reasons why they lost.

Two men working as City Marshals in Marksville were arrested by State Police for their roles in the killing of a 6-year-old child on the night of November 3rd. The investigation into the death of the boy, Jeremy Mardis, and the injuring of his father, Chris Few, who were fired upon inside their vehicle, is ongoing. State Police Col Mike Edmonson says he wants people to focus on the child, Jeremy Mardis…:

Social media was outraged last night over a banner hanging in Alabama which read “Finish what Katrina Atarted” — ahead of the the LSU/Crimson Tide SEC top 10 game tonight. The Alabama University student newspaper, The Crimson White, reports the banner was at an off-campus apartment complex and was quickly taken down.

Two men have been arrested in the case of the 6-year-old child who was fatally shot multiple times when State Police say Marksville City Marshals fired upon the vehicle he was in. Col Mike Edmonson says Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford were booked on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Edmonson says the incident was caught on video…:

The little boy, Jeremy Mardis, will be laid to rest in Mississippi tomorrow evening. His father, Chris Few, remains hospialized.

And during the game tonight, Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards’ campaign says they will air an ad which targets his Republican challenger, David Vitter, on the US Senator’s prostitution scandal. The Edwards spot compares the Amite state lawmaker’s former military experience with Vitter. It says Edwards “answered our country’s call,” and Vitter they say “answered a prostitute’s call.”

Louisiana Tech will host North Texas for homecoming on this afternoon. The Bulldogs are seeking their ninth straight win at home. The Mean Green spoiled Tech’s homecoming celebration in 2013 as they beat the Bulldogs 28-13.

In the Sun Belt…UL Lafayette is at Georgia State. The Panthers are 2-and-5 on the season, but their quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for 390 yards and two touchdowns last week in a loss to Arkansas State. The Cajuns are expected to play two quarterbacks today, Brooks Haack and Jalen Nixon.

ULM, who nearly beat the Cajuns last weekend, is at Troy.

The Saints have a good chance at picking up their fourth win in a row on tomorrow when they host Tennessee. The Titans are 1-and-6 and have announced that Marcus Mariota will start against New Orleans. Mariota missed the last two games with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

The New Orleans Pelicans fell 121-115 to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night at the Smoothie King Center.

Louisiana Oil and Gas Association President Don Briggs is not surprised President Barack Obama said no to a proposal to build the Keystone Pipeline. Briggs says the oil pipeline that would stretch from Canada to Texas would be a boost to energy production efforts in Louisiana…:

Mr. Obama says the pipeline undercuts efforts to fight climate change. Briggs hopes the next President will look at approving the project.

Authorities say the four officers involved in the shooting death of a six-year-old boy in Marksville have been placed on administrative leave. They have also been identified, three of them work for the Marksville City Police Department, and the fourth was a marshal for the Alexandria City Office. State Police continue to investigate why city marshal deputies opened fire on a vehicle, killing six-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

The State Department of Health and Hospitals says over 11-hundred businesses, schools and colleges have received a special designation to show they support healthy living. They are called “Well Spots” and DHH Assistant Secretary JT Lane says that means there’s a conscious effort to help people lead healthier lifestyles…:

The decision ends a seven-year debate over the Canada-to-Texas project that energy advocates said would create thousands of jobs and lower gas prices. Mr. Obama said the pipeline would undercut efforts to fight climate change.

Funeral arrangements have been set for the six-year-old boy who died Tuesday night when City Marshals in Marksville shot at his father’s vehicle following a pursuit. Little Jeremy Mardis will be laid to rest Sunday evening in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. State Police Col Mike Edmonson said Thursday that they still hadn’t been able to speak with the City Marshals involved and the investigation is continuing.

The biggest chunk of mud in Louisiana’s gubernatorial runoff, has been slung. A day before early voting, Democrat John Bel Edwards releases an ad accusing Republican David Vitter of answering a prostitute’s call before skipping a vote honoring soldiers. The spot says Edwards answers America’s call having served as a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division.

The Tigers flew out of Baton Rouge today to Alabama in advance of the highly anticipated Tigers Tide game tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa. One of the organizers, Liz Broussard, says the event began 31 years ago after a group from Abbeville attended an omelet celebration in France and decided to do their own. She says the celebration started out as a small affair…

The festival kicks off Saturday and includes arts and crafts, live music, an antique car show, egg tossing contests and more, culminating in the serving of the giant omelet Sunday afternoon. Broussard says the omelet will include 5,031 eggs and other delicious ingredients…
