State Police say they have arrested 197 people for suspicion of driving drunk statewide over just the past week. Historically, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is always the highest number of DWI arrests in Louisiana. Troopers say don’t risk it. A cab ride costs a lot less than fines and legal fees.

Shreveport Police have arrested another person in connection with an early Friday morning shooting that left an Arkansas man dead. 21-year-old Demarcus Gladney of Bossier City is charged with one count of illegal use of a weapon. Sgt. Bill Gooden says this deadly incident began when a group of teens were kicked out of a Christmas party at a hotel for fighting…:

Goodin says 52-year-old Robert Swenson died of a gunshot wound to the chest and it appears he was simply an innocent bystander. A 16-year-old was previously arrested for his involvement in the shooting.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in Violet. They say the incident happened Sunday morning and 27-year-old Broderick Parker was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The case remains under investigation. Authorities say this is the city’s first homocide in more than a year.

The latest Southern Media and Opinion Research poll shows voters in Louisiana don’t really know how the legislature should fill a $1.4 billion dollar budget shortfall next year. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat says there does seem to be interest in cutting out certain tax incentives in order to help balance the budget…

State Police is investigating a accident on US 90 near Youngsville that has claimed the life of a pedestrian. Authorities say 48-year-old Brian Bearden of Youngsville was walking across the highway when he was hit by a vehicle. Bearden was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. They say a chemical test was given to the driver of the vehicle and it determined that he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

Superintendent Col Mike Edmonson is saying thanks to the more than 100,000 followers State Police have on Facebook heading into 2015. Shreveport Police has arrested a man in connection with a late night shooting that left one dead and another injured. When officers responded to a report of shots fired last night, they found two men shot in the parking lot of a local liquor store. They say one man, who was shot in the chest, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another was transported to a local hospital with a wound to his hand. 36-year-old Jertorrez Harris is charged with one count of convicted felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting.
