Efforts to keep a pit bull named Zeus in Moreauville from being separated from the family that owns him came to a happy conclusion for the family last night. The Moreauville town council voted to lift their controversial “vicious dog” ordinance that would ban pit bulls and rottweilers from the town. Mayor Timmy Lemoine says they’re glad to get this issue behind them…

Zeus’ owners have become the face of a movement to end breed specific legislation. Lemoine says the ordinance was repealed after receiving several phone calls and pressure from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals…

The issue made national news when Zeus was threatened to be removed from his home where he helps care for children with special needs. An online petition to save Zeus has received over 340,000 signatures. Lemoine says the town now will adopt the Louisiana state statute in regard to dangerous dogs…

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s office says the 85-year-old Pollock woman who was viciously mauled by dogs last week died last night. Sheriff Steve Martin says they got a frantic call last Wednesday evening from Bobbie Cheveallier’s (shuh-VAHL-yay) neighbor…:

Martin says nobody witnessed the attack. He says the neighbor heard screaming and found Cheveallier on the ground and two “wolf-type” dogs were near her…:

A state audit of Grambling State University revealed equipment thefts totaling more than $130,000. Legislative Auditor Bradley Cryer says, in this case, it was the university that actually found that items had been taken from some of its buildings…

One person has been arrested in connection with the thefts. Cryer says the items stolen were plumbing units, air conditioners, and hot water heaters; things that were being sold for scrap metal. He says they have recommended that the school install new procedures to limit the key access to facilities that are vacant…

School management has outlined a plan to increase security and Cryer is optimistic that Grambling can cut down the number of thefts of university property…

Speaking of debates, should be another interesting one tonight as Former Governor Edwin Edwards and political newcomer Garret Graves face off in Denham Springs in their runoff bid for the 6th Congressinonal District Seat. The two are set to square off at 6pm. The debate is hosted by the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce.

Sad story out of Grant Parish as the 85-year-old Pollock woman who was mauled by dogs last week died last night. Sheriff Steve Martin says they got the call Wednesday evening from a neighbor who said he heard screaming then found Bobbie Cheveallier(shuh-VAHL-yay) on the ground with two “wolf-type” dogs near her…:

UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Cassidy brought up the incumbent’s charter flight matter and Landrieu called the Congressman a liar for the so-called double billing incident — but there were really no knockout blows…:

Election Day is this Saturday.

Officials from St. Tammany Parish say the teen accused of stabbing to death a Slidell man lives at an Acadia Parish boys’ home. They say 17-year-old Clayton Maricle is accused of stabbing to death 20-year-old Nicolas Carmen 15 times Saturday night. The suspect is from Slidell, but at the time of the crime, he was on a furlough from the boys home in Branch which is in Acadia Parish. Maricle faces a sentence of life in prison if he is convicted of second-degree murder.

The American Automobile Association says you could see gas prices drop by as much as 15 cents over the next couple of weeks if the price of crude remains low. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.57.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis graces this week’s issue of Sports Illustrated. The title on the popular sports magazine says “Time to Really Fear the Brow.” Davis and the Pels are in action tonight against Oklahoma City. New Orleans has lost three in a row, despite outstanding play by Davis.

The LSU men’s basketball team hosts UMASS tonight. These two teams played in the season opener last year and the Minutemen won 92-90. This year the Tigers bring a 4-2 record into the game, while UMASS is 5-2.

In other action tonight….Louisiana Tech is at Northwestern State. The home team has won this match-up five straight times. Southeastern Louisiana is on the road as the Lions visit 8th ranked Gonzaga. S-L-U is two and five and Gonzaga is 6-0.

And Northwestern State’s Zeek Woodley has been named the Southland Conference basketball player of the week. For the season, he’s averaging 23 points a game.

An official announcement regarding U-L Lafayette’s bowl destination is expected soon. Jerry Palm of cbs-sports-dot-com expects the Cajuns to go to the New Orleans Bowl for a fourth consecutive season…

UL Lafayette finished second in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern won the league, but are not eligible for a bowl, because they are a new F-B-S team, but Georiga Southern is seeking a waiver.

LSU’s Leonard Fournette has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week. The New orleans native rushed for a career-high 146 yards in the Tigers 23-17 win over Texas A-and-M.

And Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says there is no “validity” to the report that New Orleans look to draft a quarterback early in the draft next year as a possible replacement to Brees.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says a man walked into one of their precincts last night and shot himself. They say the 52-year-old told cops he was going to committ suicide and BRPD was not sucessful in asking the man to stop. Police say the man shot himself in the upper torso and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Oil prices are down to 70-dollars a barrel and it’s not good for the state’s budget because it means lower revenues from severance taxes and mineral royalties. Chief economist for the Louisiana Fiscal office, Greg Albrecht, says if oil prices don’t rebound, state leaders will have to reduce future spending even more…

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office says an 85-year-old Pollock woman, who was mauled by stray dogs last week, has succumbed to her injuries. Bobbie Chevallier was attacked by dogs last Wednesday as the was taking out the trash from her home. Authorities say there were no witnesses to the attack and Chevallier was found by a neighbor’s boyfriend later that day. Deputies have caught 15 stray dogs for testing since the attack.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Westlake woman is charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after a 2-year-old was severely burned. 32-year-old Melynnie Fondel claims the alleged incident happened while she was running water for the child’s bath and the toddler crawled into the tub while she briefly left the room. But authorities say the child’s burns were not consistent with accidental burns.

The search continues for two men The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office believe abducted and shot a woman on Thanksgiving Day. Spokesman Sergeant Clay Higgins says the 49-year-old Opelousas woman thought the men who offered her a ride were just being friendly on the Thanksgiving morning. However, he says they did not take her where she wanted to go…

He expects LSU to play the Texas Longhorns in the Texas Bowl and the Ragin’ Cajuns to make a fourth straght trip to the New Orleans Bowl.

The Southern University Jaguars will take on Alcorn State this Saturday at N-R-G Stadium in Houston for the SWAC football Championship. Alcorn beat Southern 56-16 back on September 27th. However, the Jags have not lost since, racking up seven victories in a row coming into this weekend’s matchup.

In college hoops…LSU’s Jordan Mickey has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s player of the month for November. Mickey is averaging nearly 18 points a game and ten rebounds. Mickey and the Tigers take on UMASS tonight.

Also tonight, Northwestern State hosts Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana travels to Spokane, Washington to take on ninth ranked Gonzaga.

In the NBA, the Pelicans host the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight in the Smoothie King Center. The Pels are looking to climb back to .500 on the season with a win tonight.

4 state football champioms will be crowned Friday as The Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Prep Classic gets underway in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. In Division IV, Southern Lab will face Ouachita Christian. Division III sees Catholic of New Iberia take on Calvary Baptist. In the Division II final University Lab will lock horns with Parkview Baptist. And John Curtis will play Jesuit in the Division I final.
