Louisiana State Police say a woman from Arkansas died in a Union Parish crash that also seriously injured an occupant from northeast Louisiana last night. They say 59-year-old Thomas Bates of Monroe veered off Highway 15, crashed and flipped. Investigators say both Bates and passenger 26-year-old Donyalle Harris of Crossett Arkansas were not buckled up and were ejected. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene and Bates remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Louisiana has joined 16 other states in filing a federal lawsuit which questions President Obama’s recent executive order dealing with immigration. The lawsuit claims the President’s action violated the “Take Care Clause” of the Constitution which limits the scope of presidential power. In a statement, Governor Bobby Jindal says Congress should work together to secure the border and what the president did is wrong.

New licensing rules for childcare centers and preschool programs have been approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. The regulations include a provision requiring one teacher for every 11 two-year-olds at a child care center. But Executive Director of the Policy Institute for Children in New Orleans, Melanie Bronfin, argues it’s not safe or good to have one adult watch over that many children at one time…

Parents who have teen drivers that get a learning permit will receive a booklet that will provide information and lessons on driving basics and parental pointers for the new driver in their household. It’s part of the new “Parents Supervised Driving Program.” Last year 189 teen drivers were killed in crashes across Louisiana. State Police Sergeant Nick Manale is hopeful this new program will decrease those numbers….
