Lake Charles Representative Brett Geymann says BESE did not keep the public informed when they adopted Common Core in 2010…

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Donaldsonville man after finding his wife shot to death at their home. Police Chief Tony Bacala says deputies responded to the residence after receiving a call 10AM Monday morning…

When deputies arrived they found 27-year-old Shella Howard dead in her bathroom, having been shot several times. 31-year-old Jaris Howard was found shortly thereafter and arrested without incident. He says the couple’s six year old child was in the home at the time and heard the gunshots, but did not witness the incident. Bacala says Jaris Howard is facing multiple charges…

Cannizaro was a standout shortstop for the Tulane Green Wave in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Cannizaro has worked as a scout for the New York Yankees since 2009 and the Mandeville native is pumped up to join the purple and gold

A lawsuit has been filed by 17 lawmakers challenging the methods the state used to adopt the Common Core education standards. The suit alleges the BESE board and the State Department of Education did not follow the Administrative Procedure Act. Meanwhile, the stand-off over Common Core between Governor Bobby Jindal and State Superintendent of Education John White continues.

Republican US Senator David Vitter files legislation that he says will stop the flow of illegal border crossings. Vitter’s measure would implement mandatory detention near the US-Mexico border and expedited deportation of unaccompanied minors from Central and South America…

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Charles Gilmore, Damian McDowell, and Larry Hingle. Hebert says it is not a secret he inherited a troubled agency with problem employees, but he’s very proud of the way they’ve turned things around…

The Monroe Police Department says they are looking for a man they believe is responsible for hitting another man over the head with a large stick during an argument over a cell phone. The victim, 48-year-old Jimmy Atwell, passed away from injuries sustained in the incident. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Robinson on second degree murder charges and bond has been set at $500,000. Robinson is still at-large.

It was a violent weekend in the Crescent City as police report a total of nine people are recovering from gunshot wounds throughout the metro area. New Orleans Police say the gun violence ranged from New Orleans East to South Carrolton in broad daylight. While the city’s murder rate is down from last year, New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas says it’s clear that NOPD needs more police officers.

Ragin Cajuns Quarterback Terrance Broadway was named the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year today. The senior from Baton Rouge completed 62-percent of his passes for 2,419 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2013. Broadway is one of eight Ragin Cajuns who made the Sun Belt preseason first team. ULM had two players.

According to the Tennessean, former LSU Quarterback and Titans rookie Zach Mettenberger was sucker punched at a popular Nashville nightspot. A police report was not filed, but the owner of the Losers Most Wanted Bar and Grill on Division street says a patron went up to Mettenberger and said Roll Tide to Mettenberger. Zach reportedly said good luck with that and that’s when Mettenberger was punched in the eye. According to the bar owner, Mettenberger did not throw a punch back.

ESPN.com reports the Saints Jarius Byrd should be healthy enough to participate in training camp when the team reports later this week at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia. Whether he’ll be limited or not, has yet to be decided. Byrd had back surgery in late May to repair a disc issue.

A Grant Parish woman has been arrested after she was standing in the middle of Parsonage Road,yelling, holding a knife an throwing rocks at passing cars. When a deputy arrived, she dropped the knife, took a swing at him, and ran away. When that deputy caught up to her, fifty year-old Connie Pennington of Colfax became violent. She was arrested on numerous charges.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Sulphur woman whom deputies found yesterday. A family member made the call, saying she had not heard from sixty-six year-old Pamela Parker in a couple of days. When deputies arrived, they found Parker dead inside her home. Authorities are ruling the death as a homicide, and that investigation is on-going.

A Patterson man is under arrest for allegedly hitting a teenager in the head with a vase that fractured his skull. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office says the 16-year-old boy was attempting to stop a heated argument between 38-year-old Charles Elmore and a woman when the incident happened. Elmore was charged with second degree battery.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has ruled the death of a 66-year-old Sulphur woman a homicide. Authorities responded to a family member’s call saying they had not heard from Pamela Parker in a couple of days. When deputies arrived and entered the home this morning, they found Parker dead. The investigation is ongoing.

The Ragin Cajuns are picked to finish first in the Sun Belt. That’s according to a poll of the league’s coaches. Finishing behind U-L Lafayette are Arkansas State, South Alabama, Troy and ULM is expected to finish fifth. The Warhawks were six-and-six last season, while the Cajuns were nine and four and finished in a tie for first place in the league. Sun Belt media day is scheduled for tomorrow.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the Saints new training camp facility in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The Black-and-Gold are set to report this Thursday. We’ll likely find out then, if newly signed safety Jarius Byrd will be able to practice once training camp starts. The former Buffalo Bill is coming off back surgery.

LSU has released its 2015 baseball schedule. The Tigers begin the year by hosting Kansas on february 13th. LSU will also travel to Houston’s Minute Maid Park to play in the Houston College Classic. The three teams they’ll play are Houston, Nebraska, and Baylor. The Tigers SEC schedule begins March 13th at home against Ole Miss. And they’ll play the Ragin Cajuns on Wednesday April 1st in the Wally Pontiff Junior Classic at Zephyr Field in Metairie.

Tough start on the mound for former LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman yesterday as he allowed five runs in four innings as his Orioles lost to the Oakland As ten to two. The loss drops Gausman’s record to four and three.

Former saints linebacker Jo Lonn Dunbar was arrested over the weekend in Miami Beach, Florida for allegedly getting into a fight outside of a nightclub with NBA free agent Donte Greene. Dunbar played with the Saints from 2009 to 2011 and he’s now a linebacker with the St. Louis Rams.
