According to a recent analysis by Moody’s Investors Service, the oil and gas industry will continue to face cuts in 2016. They project companies like Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron could see cash flow shrink by as much 20-percent this year. LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott says there’s concern about another oil bust, like the one in the 1980s, but he doesn’t feel there will be a repeat…:

A Denham Springs Marine who was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash during a training exercise in California will be received in New Orleans today. Cpl. Bryan Lauw’s body will be escorted to Denham Springs and is expected to arrive at 7 p.m. Friends and family would like the communities along the route to give Bryan a hero’s welcome. He was just 21.

State Police released August casino figures Thursday and found that Louisiana’s 15 boats, racetrack slots and Harrah’s land-based casino brought in 1.7 percent less revenue than the prior year. Reports show winnings in New Orleans dropped 8.5 percent while winning in Lake Charles is up 21.5 percent due to the addition of the Golden nugget. Shreveport-Bossier City was down 15.7 percent in August.

Democratic presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton will make a campaign stop in Baton Rouge next week. Clinton will hold what is described as a “grassroots organizing event” Monday morning at the Louisiana Leadership Institute. Supporters can sign up to attend the event online at Clinton’s campaign website. There will also be a private campaign fundraiser while she’s in town.

During yesterday’s Lt. Governor’s debate in Baton Rouge, the four candidates were asked about their stance on the removal of Confederate monuments in New Orleans. Republican Jefferson Parish President John Young is against removing or destroying the monuments. He doesn’t think removing Confederate monuments will solve current racial issues…

Education officials in Lafayette say they are spending more than $26,000 on beefed up security at Northside High following a shooting after last Friday’s football game which injured a student. Athletic Director of the Lafayette Parish School System, Bobby Badeaux, says the system will purchase four security light systems to improve visibility in the school’s parking lot and add 20 high-definition surveillance cameras…

The Pineville Police Department says a home invasion at an apartment complex has left one man dead. Authorities say they were informed by another resident of the complex that several black males forced their way into an apartment and began ransacking it. Police say one resident, 26-year-old Montreal Jones, was shot and later died at a local hospital. No arrests have been made in the incident and the investigation is continuing.

Low oil prices will most likely continue and result in more cuts to oil companies in 2016, according to a Moody’s Investors Service analysis. LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott says currently crude oil is selling for about 47 dollars a barrel and they expect it to only slightly go up.

In high school football action last night: Byrd defeated Calvary Baptist 49-21, John Curtis crushed Parkview Baptist 41-14, it was Eunice over St. Martinville 40-18, and Sulphur upended Iowa 37-27.

It appears New Orleans Saints running back CJ Spiller isn’t giving any hints as to when we will see him on the field. He had minor surgery on his knee in August and returned to practice this week. Spiller says they’re taking it one day at a time is unwilling to offer any clues as to whether or not he’ll be able to play in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Louisiana Tech’s 2015-16 men’s basketball schedule features 17 home games, the most ever played inside Thomas Assembly Center during a regular season. In fact, the Bulldogs will play their first two games of the season at home for the first time since 1996. The schedule also features non-conference road games against Ole Miss and Ohio State. The matchup against the Buckeyes will be a rematch of the 1986 NIT Final Four.

Holden, who is an African-American, let his frustrations be known when asked about the commercial that Guillory aired which has former President Lyndon Johnson using the racial slur…

Political analysts say Governor Bobby Jindal failed to stand out in last night’s CNN Republican presidential candidate debate. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says last night’s performance shows why Jindal continues to remain at the bottom of the pack…

The Many Police Department says a Texas man arrested on drug charges tried to tell police that the pants he was wearing containing the alleged illegal narcotics were not his. Police spokesperson Dean Lambert says, after a chase, they stopped 41-year-old Demontra Nelson, and then called the narcotics K-9 unit to the scene….

There was a forum of the Lt. Governor candidates today and the main focus was the fued between Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden and Opelousas Senator Elbert Guillory. Holden, who is an African American, strongly disapproves of Guillory’s use of the n-word in his campaign commercials. Guillory, who is also black, said that only an idiot, who had not seen the spot, would make the comments that Holden made. Holden piped back..:
CUT 15 (10) “Baton Rouge”

The Livingston Parish man accused of brutally attacking his pregnant wife and killing their unborn child has pleaded guilty. 34-year-old Jeffrey Reynolds of Walker was arrested in 2013 on charges of attempted manslaughter and first degree feticide. He has been sentenced to 20 years. It is believed Reynolds was on bath salts at the time of the attack.

A donor who wishes to remain anonymous is offering to pay New Orleans $126,000 to remove four prominently displayed Confederate monuments. Mayor Mitch Landrieu has been pushing for the symbols to come down and be declared a public nuisance. The City Council said they got a letter this week with information that an anonymous donor was ready to pay the cost of taking the monuments down.

The Many Police Department says a Texas man is under arrest after being caught with apparent narcotics in his pocket but claiming the pants he was wearing weren’t his and he didn’t know where they came from. Police spokesperson Dean Lambert says 41-year-old Demontra Nelson of Houston was charged with with possession of both cocaine and marijuana, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. LSU is favored to beat Auburn this Saturday in Tiger Stadium by seven and a half points. Auburn heads into Death Valley with a 2-0 record, but in the season opener they nearly blew a big lead to Louisville and last week almost lost to FCS member Jacksonville State. Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn says they are not dwelling on previous performances…

The New Orleans Pelicans have re-signed restricted free agent guard Norris Cole. Cole came to the Pelicans in February from Miami as part of a three way trade that involved Phoenix. In 28 games with the Pels last season, Cole averaged nearly 10 points and over three assists per game. Terms of the deal were not released.
