Today only 8 regional offices of O-M-V and Public Tags will open after they were closed last week from cyberattack on state computers. The Office of Motor Vehicles is asking the public to only conduct time-sensitive business. Regional offices in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Monroe, Lafayette, and Thibodaux will open today. State Police are asked to used discretion issuing citations for expired licenses and tags.

Oil and gas rigs receive approval from the Trump Administration to operate at reduced royalty or royalty-free rates in new shallow waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director Scott Angelle says revitalizing shallow water drilling would reinvigorate coastal communities like Morgan City, Houma, New Iberia, Terrebonne, and Lafourche.

If you’re still using Windows 7 the clock is ticking, beginning January 14th Windows will no longer offer patches and updates for their Windows 7 operating system. Tech Gumbo host Hagai Davis says that’s a concern because users can be vulnerable to attacks. However, Windows offers a free upgrade to Windows 10 for Windows 7 and 8 users. Davis says it’s something that can be taken care of pretty quickly.

Davis adds Windows 10 may not run well on older computers, so if your system is four years old or older, it’s time to look at getting an upgrade.
