The Westbound lane of I-10 over the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge is now open. It had been closed since Monday after five 18-wheelers crashed and a Florida man was killed when the truck he was driving was engulfed in flames.  The area was also evacuated due to two of the trucks carrying flammable materials. DOTD opened the bridge at 3pm today.

 

Council for a Better Louisiana releases its candidate surveys, offering voters a more detailed look at the major candidates for Governor. CABL President Barry Erwin says Governor Edwards and Congressman Abraham submitted their responses, but the third major candidate in the race did not.

According to Pew research the teen birth rate has declined to its lowest level in recorded history. In 2018 seventeen babies were born per one-thousand girls’ ages 15 to 19 in the U-S. Tulane Sociology professor Michele Adams says the teen birth rate has been cut in half since 2008. Adams expects the trend to continue as occupational opportunities grow for women…
