Several media outlets are reporting 81-year-old Donna Douglas passed away on New Years Day. The native of Louisiana who lived in Zachary and was born in Pride in 1933 is best known for her role as Elly May Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies. Douglas was also a Miss Baton Rouge and was named Miss New Orleans in 1957.

Just over 20 new state laws went into effect with the start of the new year. That includes changes to Louisiana’s D-W-I laws. Jefferson Parish assistant district attorney Norma Broussard, says judges can now take certain measures to provide substance abuse help for those convicted of their first or second D-W-I…:

She says the state’s revised D-W-I laws also calls for jail time for first time offenders, who are under the age of 21.
