Republican Congressman Steve Scalise of Metairie, has acknowledged that he once addressed a white supremacist group while serving in the Louisiana Legislature. In 2002, Scalise spoke at convention of the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, which is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Scalise aide, Moira Bagley Smith, says in a written statement that Scalise spoke only to rally support for conservative fiscal policies and in no way to endorse the mission and views of this group.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says one teen is dead and another in stable condition when they were shot by a business owner after they allegedly broke into his store and tried to run him over. The owner told authorites that he fired several rounds into the vehicle after he saw one of the men raise a gun toward him. Authorities say 19-year-old Latorious Walker was found deceased in the vehicle with several gunshot wounds. 17-year-old Lamar Brooks was found with a single gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital.
