Attorney General Jeff Landry isn’t backing down from his statements yesterday that indicated he was strongly considering jumping into the 2019 governor’s race, and primed to do it soon. Landry, calling into the Moon Griffon show, said he made his intentions known, because he was concerned that republicans were lacking a standard-bearer to take the fight to Edwards immediately.

Cut 12 (10)   “doing that.”

Landry has tussled with the Governor publicly since taking office in 2015. He’s previously served in Congress.

Landry discussed his concern with another Republican primary bloodbath, like the one in 2015 that saw David Vitter emerge battered before losing to Edwards in the runoff. He says if Senator John Kennedy were to jump into the race, he’d support him.

Cut 13 (08) “we dont.”

Landry lamented the current sit back and wait approach that he says many prominent Republicans have adopted in regards to the 2019 challenge to Governor Edwards.
