A 19-year-old is dead after she was fatally stabbed by an escaped David Wade Correctional Center inmate. Police say Amanda Carney was abducted by 39-year-old Deltra Henderson, after he walked away a work assignment on Thursday. Carney’s high school Principal Shane Lee says this is a difficult time for the community.

Carney is the step daughter of the assistant warden. Henderson was later killed in a standoff with police.

The Mermentau Police Chief is behind bars on theft charges. Master Trooper Brooks David says Chief Amos Crader allegedly stole funds from the police association’s bank account, and faces multiple charges.

Community leaders in Monroe are hopeful Saturday’s Gun Buy-Back Rally at Charles Johnson Park will help get guns off the streets. Rally coordinator Pastor Vance Price says three young people died recently as a result of gun violence. He says if we can get these guns off the street, lives could be saved.

Gun owners can drop off their legal weapons between 10 am and 2 pm.

A cold front is expected to move through the state on Saturday, but don’t expect things to cool off much. State Climatologist Barry Keim says cool air is coming in from Canada, and while the temperatures will still be hot, there will be a noticeable difference.
