A 9-year-old girl disappeared while playing on the Tangipahoa River Sunday afternoon, and the search has gotten back underway, according to authorities. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and others are actively searching for the child. The Parish Fire Department said the child was playing in the the water with her family when she went missing.

The Alliance for Excellent Education ranks Louisiana’s education plan one of the most promising in the country. Erin Bendily with the state Department of Education says their goal is to help children and educators meet goals by specifically looking at how each is performing:

State Education Superintendent John White says this plan is one of the reasons Louisiana’s high school graduation rate is higher than ever at 77 percent.
