According to a new Violence Policy Center report, Louisiana ranks fourth in the nation in the rate of women murdered by men. The report applies to 2012, the most recent year data is available. The United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s Kim Sport says this year’s report is particularly concerning…

The Louisiana Democratic Party has officially endorsed former Governor Edwin Edwards in the 6th District Congressional race.  Edwards is one of three Democrats on the ballot and has the most name recognition.  LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says the party endorses Edwards even though he served time in federal prison on corruption charges…

A Slidell police officer remains in critical condition after he was possibly driving drunk in a crash that killed his passenger early Sunday morning. State Police Trooper Greg Marchand says impairment is suspected on the part of 31-year-old John Cole, who was off-duty at the time, as bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle. He says a blood sample from Cole was collected for toxicology analysis…

A 31-year-old passenger in Cole’s vehicle, Daniel Hanlon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

So what will life be like for Ray Nagin for the next 10 years now that his sentence at the federal prison in Texarkana has begun?  Loyola University Professor and former Bureau of Prisons official, Robert English, says Texarkana is minimum security but it’s also minimal in terms of privacy…

Nagin is reportedly filing an appeal with a public defender because he can no longer afford to pay for an attorney.
