Former US Representative Vance McAllister, also known as the Kissing Congressman, tells Gannett newspapers that he plans on making a political comeback. McAllister says he plans to run against state senator Michael Walsworth this fall. McAllister was voted out of office last fall after security video caught him kissing a woman that wasn’t his wife.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries opened the fall shrimp season this week. Fishermen are reporting good catches off of the Louisiana coast — but prices at the dock are as much as 65 percent less than last year.
